Action packed first half
The Slaters went to North Petherwin Reserves for the first league evening game of the season and needed to put a good performance in.
Most of the action took place in the first half when firstly the home side took the lead in the 14th minute, 1-0. It wasn't until the half hour mark that Delabole drew the scores level when Mac Irwin scored his 7th goal of the season. There then followed a penalty awarded to North Petherwin which Ashley Morris saved superbly to keep The Slaters in the game, 1-1. Delabole took the lead in the 40th minute with Kieran Barrett scoring his 22nd goal of the season, 1-2. The lead wasn't kept for long when North Petherwin levelled the scores shortly before halftime, 2-2.
There were no more goals in the second half but Jake Woodward covering the goal line after goalkeeper Ashley Morris went to close down the attacker, cleared the ball off the line to prevent the home side taking all 3 points. 2-2 fulltime.
North Petherwin were a physical side whose tactic of playing the long ball game nearly paid off but The Slaters kept strong and united to take a point from this game. Will it be enough to keep third place or will the chasing pack of Gorran, Mevagissey or Lanivet Inn with games in hand overtake. All Delabole can continue to do is get as many points as they can and keep their fingers crossed. Though they may be without top scorer Kieran Barrett who sustained a bad ankle injury which could keep him out for the remaining 3 games of the season.
Lanivet Inn away is the next match up next week in the evening so these are the type of games which need to be played with tenacity, solidarity and belief to get promotion.
