Delabole Lose Last League Home Game Of The Season!
Scoreline flattered visitors
The last home game of the season was the evening game against lowly North Petherwin and the weather was sunny and fine but chilly. There may not as many exuberant words in this report as the thesaurus was worn out on the last one!
It was the same side that got the fantastic result away to Lanivet Inn last week but for one change in defence with Jake Woodward carrying a knock so in stepped Martyn Cleave. The manager opted for a christmas tree formation on 4-3-2-1 for this match. The visitors took the lead in the very early stages of the match, making it 0-1 in the 8th minute. Then 10 minutes before halftime they doubled their lead making it 0-2 at halftime.
The second half got underway and The Slaters were taking the game more to North Petherwin (who weren't looking particularly brilliant but getting the job done) in this half and were on top, then Luke King got a goal back for Delabole with 49 minutes gone, 1-2. The Slaters continued to have the majority of play but without the visitors net rippling. There were half chances to score but they were unable to make any of them count. A draw was looking the more likely outcome of the match but all chances were thwarted when North Petherwin were awarded penalty in the 88th minute which they duly scored,1-3 Full Time.
The scoreline certainly flattered the away team, who weren't good value and shows why they are languishing near the bottom of the table but they proved quite stubborn at times. A draw would of been a more fair result. The last game of the season for The Slaters is a rearranged away trip to Grampound Reserves along with the added bonus of the team travelling in the party bus along with supporters to round the season of in fine style with merriment, mirth and a few ales along the road back to Slate City!
