De la Salle 7 Birkenhead Park 58

The latest visitors to Lancaster Rd were Birkenhead Park ,for the first meeting between the clubs at level six.Della were still searching for their first points of what is proving to be a difficult start to the new season and today they would be left still pointless after a comprehensive defeat .Della started the game brightly enough with ball in hand, but within five minutes with possession lost Park would stretch the Della defence to score in the corner for their first try of the game .This score would be the first of ten tries for the visitors to Della`s solitary response to give Park a resounding victory 7-58.Parks score could have been greater had their kicker not failed with five conversions. Park were superb in all areas mixing the attacks with phase building surges from their forward pack and sweeping back line moves in a fantastic display of ball alive rugby. They scored tries out wide and tries through driving mauls , all in all a fantastic display and you have to take your hat off too them for the way they dictated the game .
From the Della perspective yes it is disappointing to be on the end of such a heavy defeat, and yes we are finding life difficult at the moment. Can we get better i`m sure we can, you could not fault the Della for the effort they put into this game, trying hard to contain a rampant Park outfit. With possession hard to come by and territory constantly being closed down, the Della lads fought to the end in a solid group display, never letting their heads drop and getting off the canvas after every knock down . And although the club as a whole feels these defeats deeply we are immensely proud of the effort the lads are putting in, and the belief that the group has that they will at some point turn the corner. As for the future hopefully in the coming weeks the long term injury list should start to diminish, and the work that the lads and the coaches are putting in will start to bear fruit.
