De la Salle 0 Blackburn 31

De la Salles latest opponents were Blackburn who knocked Della out of the cup earlier in the season ,so they were a known quantity and Della knew what to expect. Not that this would make any difference to the outcome , Della have had more than a little trouble coming to terms with life at level six and yet we have enjoyed the journey so far .This game started as the game would progress with a penalty straight from the kick off in the Blackburn twenty two which allowed Burn to kick deep into Della territory and from the line out Burn were able to drive over for the opening try which went unconverted 0-5.Della regrouped and pushed hard to get a score of their own however almost every time they got into an attacking position they gave away a penalty allowing Burn to turn defence into attack . Much to Della`s credit they were able to hold Burn up to the last nine minutes of the half when a series of penalties allied with defensive mistakes allowed Burn to run in three tries in quick succession so that thirty minutes of hard work and concentration went up in a wisp of smoke 0-24.
The second half saw a more determined effort from Della but yet they still could not break down the Burn defence , and every time they got within striking distance they gave away another penalty, allowing Burn to ease off what little pressure Della were applying.Having said that Della were concentrating hard on defence and for thirty minutes Burn were held , but eventually their pressure on the Della line paid off with their fifth try 0-31. And this was how the game would end , all credit to Blackburn they were superior in the set pieces and were more disciplined in the loose, their defence was solid and their attacking strategy was well thought out, From Della`s point of view it was disappointing not to be able to break the Burn defensive line with the amount of possession we enjoyed, but when you give away a total of twenty one penalties and added to this two yellow cards you in all honesty cannot expect to earn a result. There were some plus points for Della we welcomed back Paul Berry from long term injury and second row Bryn Hughes had a fantastic game to earn the man of the match award. So for Della it`s Stockport away next week and i am sure they will be worried facing the strongest team in the league Della who are propping everyone else up ?
