The Development team faced not having a manager after Nick Hailes left to take over the reserve team at his home village of Llandyrnog and it looked as if the team may have had to withdraw from the Clwyd Conwy league where they have played for the last two seasons.
Dan Whitfield and Aled Douglas have now stepped forward and agreed to take the reins as joint player managers.
Dan said " Aled and I are glad to help. The Development team is here so that there is a link between junior football and senior football but we have always had a mixture of experienced players and younger players and we hope this will continue. Aled was playing at Llanefydd last year but has agreed to play for Denbigh and he and I will run the side together. We will continue playing in Division 1 of the Clwyd Conwy league and it is possible that four new teams will be joining which will be interesting. We will know more after the league AGM on Tuesday evening."
The first team managers at Denbigh, Dewi and Matty are keen for the Development side to continue as is Kev Roberts from the Reserves. They intend to ensure that the sides work close together with managers from all three teams having periodic meetings both for support and to ensure that players who are performing well are given the opportunity to progress. They are currently working on a Club Open Day which is planned for Sunday 22nd July and all squads from the First Team down to the Junior sides will be asked to attend. There will be a number of matches and also an opportunity for parents and fans to meet the players and to ask any questions of the First Team and the club in general.
Dan has recently completed the Football Leaders Course and Aled hopes to do so soon before they explore the possibility of going for their C Licence. This is their first challenge of this type and they aknowledge that they have a lot to learn and will be looking for support.
Aled said " Dan and I have been mates for years and will work together but hope that we will get a few older heads to join us that will be able to lead on the pitch. We will announce our first training sessions soon and want people to look out for info on the Denbigh Town website. We are signing players now though so please get in touch."
