Seven goals for Thomas as Reserves score Eight

Denbigh Town Reserves 8-0 Penmaenmawr Phoenix Reserves

What a night for Andy Thomas as he scored seven goals as a rampant Reserves team moved into the next round of the Lock Stock Fireworks Challenge Cup. Manager Kev Roberts and his coaches Johnny Roberts and Gareth Hughes had said before the game that the team needed to be more ruthless in front of goal and Thomas certainly delivered the goods

On a great night for football under the lights at Central Park, Denbigh dominated the game from the early stages. It was left back Billy Holmes who opened the scoring after 14 minutes with a blistering run down the left wing and he fired low and hard to give the Town an early lead. Holmes was making his first appearance back in a Denbigh shirt after returning to the Club from Llandyrnog and he put in an impressive performance

Thomas got his first after 38 minutes from a Denbigh corner which fell to him just inside the penalty box. He turned and shot through a crowd of defenders to find the bottom of the net

Denbigh had other chances to extend the lead before the half time whistle but went in 2-0 up at the interval

The second half continued as did the first with constant Denbigh pressure with Sam Tate and Rob Blythin commanding the midfield. Thomas got his second on 60 minutes when his tame shot trickled into the corner of the net. His hat trick was completed on 75 minutes courtesy of a great run by Sam Tate from the half way line down the right wing. Tate had beaten the offside trap and when he was on the edge of the penalty area he unselfishly squared the ball to Thomas who slotted the ball home

Thomas' fourth came on 78 minutes after a foul in the Penmaenmawr penalty saw the referee award a penalty and the striker blasted this into the back of the net. Two minutes later he had his fifth quickly followed by his sixth and seventh - a remarkable scoring feat from Thomas

Manager Kev Roberts said after the game " I'm delighted with the result . The performance was top class and I can't fault the lads tonight. It was just a first class team effort and well done to Andy Thomas on his goals. We can't wait for the next round"
