Reserves start the New Year with a four goal win
Denbigh Town Reserves 4-0 Pwllheli Reserves
The first game at Central Park in 2019 saw Denbigh Town Reserves come out convincing winners against a determined Pwllheli Reserves on a mild January evening.
Denbigh started the stronger of the two teams and were awarded a penalty after 5 minutes when left wing back Billy Holmes (pictured above) made a surging run into the Pwllheli penalty area only to be brought down unfairly. Andy Thomas stepped up to take the kick but his shot hit the post and rebounded back into play and Pwllheli were able to clear the danger.
Ten minutes later it was another great run down the left wing by wing back Holmes which saw him play a square ball across the edge of the penalty box to Sam Tate who struck a fierce drive from 18 yards which gave the Pwllheli keeper no chance and Denbigh went one up
Pwllheli struck back and well proving competitive opponents coming close to equalising on several occasions. However Town keeper Gethin Williams saved well on a couple of occasions and he was also well protected by his two central defenders Gwion Bibby and Jacob Parry as the teams went in at half time with the score 1-0.
The second half started with early pressure from Pwllheli which Denbigh rode out and on 53 minutes Andy Thomas was on the end of a ball from midfield just inside the penalty area. He chipped the oncoming keeper and Liam Roberts followed up the kick to tap in from 3 yards into an empty net to make it 2-0 to Denbigh
Denbigh's third came on 75 minutes and this time it was Billy Holmes getting on the score sheet after another run saw him beating the advancing keeper to a ball on the edge of the penalty area and he was able to slide the ball into the net
Ashley Andrews completed the scoreline with a tap in on 83 minutes and Denbigh played the game out to come out comfortable winners.
