Derwent break Leicester hoodoo

On their three previous trips to play teams from Leicester this season, Derwent had only managed to pick up a solitary point.

So a trip to play Leicester Westleigh wasn't a game to be taken for granted despite Derwent's championship winning season.

However, Derwent weren't to be foiled on their forth attempt, as they put in their best away performance of the season. Derwent were quickly into their stride and started to move the ball around with confidence, finding space at will. After just 3 minutes, Derwent got the break through from a well worked short corner. Tom Ellison exchanged a neat 1-2 with Matt Bacon and Ellison made no mistake from close range.

Dean Stevens doubled the lead showing fine skills to bamboozle the Westleigh defence. Which meant the Wirksworth side went into half time with breathing room.

After last week's Jekyll and Hyde performance, which saw them lose a three goal lead, Derwent weren't in the mood to make a repeat performance. Steve Langrick scored from a fantastic flowing move which saw Derwent turn defence into attack in just three moves, and then slip the ball past the keeper.

Things got even better when George Taylor drove powerfully down the middle of the pitch, and scored on his reverse from the top of the area. Completing a fine performance from the youngster.

Despite a consolation goal for Westliegh, they couldn't find a way back into the game, and when Richard Wildgoose solo run saw him outpace and out-think a tiring Westleigh defence, the Leicester hoodoo, was well and truley smashed.

Heath Roberts, Derwent Coach was impressed with the reaction of the side after last weeks disappointing draw. "We've been working hard on keeping the ball better, and reducing the amount of turnovers. After last week's blip we were back on form today. We were far more clinical in all areas of the pitch, and I'm pleased we had five different goal scorers. With our final game of the season at home to Newark, I want us to cap an excellent season with a Champions performance. To reach the 50 point mark, with a goal difference over 60 will be a nice way to round off the season."
