After an itermittant start to the season and Dewsbury Moor setting up their U18's for next year, a "friendly" seemed apt for both teams.
Moor got off to a blistering defensive start and their collision and determination to push back the Celtic attackers was evident. However Celtic kept going forward and produced the first try from a well practiced move with Batchelor taking the ball to the defence under the post and "popping" a pass for Meese to crash over under the posts. Halloran adding the easy extras. 0-6
Moor re-grouped and when they had possesion camped out on the Celtic line. The goal line defence from Celtic was brilliant and they held out all the big guns from Moor. The best part of this defence was the goal line "line speed". This alone cut down the attacking options available to Moor. Moor then tried to push the ball to their right fringe, but with Celtics line speed the ball was intercepted 3m out by Halloran. Halloran then progressed to get into top gear and out sprinted all the Moor chases to score in the corner after his 97m sprint. He also added the extras from the touch line. 0-12
The next 15 mins was an arm wrestle between both teams. Neither teams managed to progress over the tryline. An innocuous tackle caused tempers to fray and resulted in both teams having a man sent to the sin-bin. The penalty went to Moor and on the second tackle Newsome made a lazy arm collision with the Moor attacker and was rightly sin-binned. With 12 v 11 the advantage should have been with Moor but Celtic pushed on and Batchelor put a high bomb up and his own pressure caused the Moor fullback to loose the ball. Batchelor collected the loose ball and scored 10m in from the touch line. 0-16 was the halftime score.
The second half was again an arm wrestle with Celtic letting a Moor player glide through the goal line defence to score. 4-16
Celtic had 3 further chances to score before Maguire jumped out from dummy half and fed Newsome who hit a great line. He went round/through the sweeper and the full back then took his legs. In the act of falling Newsome passed the ball to the supporting Mowvley who then sprinted 20 m to score under the posts. Halloran again adding the easy extras. 4-22
Celtics defence then grew in open play and held Moor at bay in their own 20m. From the turn over the ball was swung right through 5 pais of hands for Nicholas to score in the corner. Halloran again adding the extras from the touch line. 4-28
Moor never stopped working and from the last scrum the elected to kick long and chase. They outpaced the flat Celtic defence and scored a converted try in the last minute. The final score was 10-28
