Didcot Rugby Club Mini's - U6 to U9

In 2010 we started a Mini’s Rugby squad for primary school age children. Our first two seasons have been a great success! We’ve been able to do all sorts of fun activities including friendly matches with other local clubs, BBQ Fun Days, a training session with England Rugby Legend Bill Beaumont and most recently playing in front of 9000 London Wasps and Gloucester fans! We were even nominated for a national RFU Award for the phenomenal success we’ve had!

We've now finished the 2011/2012 season, in early May, with our End of Season Awards, presented by the Mayor. The players and parents are taking a well earnt break.

We will start training again in September 2012 and hope to welcome new players to join the 50 children already signed up to the club! We pride ourselves on the warm welcome the offer to any children who want to come and have a go at rugby!

Our Mini’s section is divided into four age groups that children can join: Primary school year 1 (called U6), year 2 (U7), year 3 (U8) and our oldest group year 4 (U9). U6-U8 play TAG Rugby, which is a fun, fast paced, non-contact version of rugby. It is played by boys and girls in mixed teams and is safe to play, easy to learn and great fun! Our U9’s will start playing basic contact rugby next season.

No experience or knowledge of rugby is required and all equipment and resources are provided by the Club including experienced, qualified rugby coaches. All our coaches have an RFU qualification, are first aid trained and have been CRB checked.

Whilst we are not training each week over the summer we will be out and about promoting the club, and if you've seen our roadshow at one of the School Fete's we hope to see you either at our Tag Taster day in July (more details here on our website) or in September when we start training again.
