Dinnington Town Football Club was formed in year 2000. The Club now has two Senior teams; the first team competes in the Northern Counties East League and the reserves in the Premier Division of the County Senior League. We also have an Under 18's team and the Under 19's play in the North Midlands Under 19's League. We have seven boys teams and four girls teams, whilst last year a Ladies team was formed as well.
Although major improvement works are going ahead in the area, Dinnington still has a long way to go and is lacking any sporting facilities. We believe the improvements made to our ground will generate interest and fill the gap that is lacking at the moment. We are promoting the club in the local press; the Dinnington/Worksop Guardian and Sheffield Star take an interest in our development with the club always mentioned in the sports pages. We now have a link with the Dinnington Schools Sports Co-ordinator which will allow us to coach children in the primary schools both boys and girls, giving them a taster session which will encourage them to take up the sport and come along to our Soccer Academy. We have been encouraged by the interest so far and believe we are giving a community feeling back to the town. Through our Saturday morning Soccer School at the Resource Centre, managed by our FA trained coaches, these children will be the mainstay of our teams from under 7's, right through to the first team. We want to win, but only in the right way, honest and fair, this will also be stressed to the parents who have a huge part to play as the youth teams develop. Without the parents these teams will never survive, the management team will encourage all volunteers to take an active part in running the club. The managers will be specially picked and encouraged to attend coaching courses to attain the highest levels. The most talented and dedicated youngsters will be encouraged to further their ambitions in football and with our link with the Sheffield Wednesday Development Centre at Dinnington, we have a structured route to becoming a professional player. With these links and hard work we are to join the FA Development Programme and become a Charter Standard Community Club. The FA Charter Standard Scheme will ensure and assist clubs to provide a safe and pleasant environment and a quality experience for all players. We hope this will encourage these young people to play for life at the highest possible standard and also develop into respected adults.
The Club is eager for success, our aim is to entertain the supporters and climb as far as we can up the leagues. To get there we need to carry on the hard work on and off the pitch. 2004 was the most significant milestone for the Club when we secured a sponsorship deal with local company Morrell Exhaust and Tyre Services Ltd (METS). Chief Executive Lee Gaskill is prepared to invest in the club and with his vast business experience and business contacts this can only be of benefit to our club. He was offered the position of President which he accepted. In 2006 Mark O'Brien of SAMANN ENVIRONMENTAL joined the Club as Chairman, offering substantial sponsorship and leads to other funds which will enhance the club's position. We have gone a long way in just a few years but now in partnership with METS and SAMANN ENVIRONMENTAL we will be better equipped for the future. We are emerging from the ashes of this old mining town, hence our club logo, the phoenix. Originally formed in 1908, our new aim now is to take the club as far as we can. Let's hope that in 2008, we have a team and facilities every one from Dinnington will be happy and proud to be associated with.
