Dinnington had to recover from a 2 goal deficit twice in an entertaining draw against AFC Dronfield in a game where they had enough chances to win but came up against a keeper in form.
Against the run of play AFC Dronfield struck first as their striker eased past the Dinnington defence and shot low under the advancing Matt Kriel
in goal. Dinnington were desperately unlucky to go further behind as a speculative shot from distance was too high for the keeper and dropped under the bar to make it 2-0 to the hosts.
Dinnington’s heads refused to drop and from a corner got back into the game as the ball was cleared Reece Peters
hit a first time 25 yard shot which flew over the keeper into the top corner 1-2. More pressure from the away team saw Declan Stevens play a one-two with Reagan Dale on the right wing but Declan’s shot flew wide of the goal but they didn’t have to wait long for the equaliser and it came from the same source with Reagan Dale chipping a pass forward to Declan Stevens who’s clinical shot gave the keeper no chance, 2-2.
Dinnington were in the ascendency but straight after half time they were shocked to go behind again after an AFC Dronfield counter attack down the right and an unstoppable shot from 20 yards to make it 3-2. Dinnington came back again and Daniel Burke
went on a jinking run past 3 players and into the box but the shot was straight at the keeper. Sam Eyong
saw his chipped shot cleared off the line and scrambled clear by the Dronfield defence but against the run of play they went further behind 2-4 mid way through the 2nd half.
Dinnington continued to put the hosts under pressure with wave after wave of attacks and jordan voyse
was put through by Louis Hellewell
and his low shot looked perfectly placed but the AFC Dronfield keeper got down low to palm it around the post. But their keeper could do nothing to stop Sam Eyong
’s shot from just inside the box as the ball broke from a corner and pulled it back to 4-3. With 10minutes to go from another corner Sam Eyong
got his second and Dinnington went in search of the winner as the charmed life of the AFC Dronfield goal continued with with another shot cleared off the line.
In the closing minutes Dinnington threw the kitchen sink at the home team with a series of long throws from the right and several corners but they were grateful to Jack Littlewood and Alex Elian when a near post corner to AFC Dronfield was blocked and cleared as the game finished 4-4.
A much improved team performance from all the players today which deserved a win for the effort, team work and number of chances created. To come back from 2 goals down twice in a game showed real character and determination and a draw was the least the lads deserved.
