Dinnington were immediately on the attack and from their first corner the ball was cleared out to James Proctor who let fly with a goal bound shot from just outside the area which ricocheted off the underside of the bar and Owen Williamson’s follow up was saved by the keeper.
Despite having the majority of the possession the breakthrough didn’t come until 25mins into the first half from a free kick from Louis Hellewell 25 yards out who’s shot was too hot for the Beighton keeper to handle to give Dinnington a well deserved lead, 0-1.
Daniel Burke and Reece Peters were linking up well down the left and Alex Elian’s long throws were causing problems for the Beighton defence but the ball just wouldn’t drop for them in the box. Louis Hellewell was controlling the middle of the park and Dinnington could consider themselves unlucky to only be one up at the break.
The 2nd half didn’t start well for Dinnington and Beighton were soon level following a mix up between James Proctor and Matt Kriel which culminated in Beighton hitting a speculative looping shot over the keeper, 1-1.
Beighton were given the opportunity to take lead for the first time in the match from the penalty spot after their attacker was brought down by James Proctor on the edge of the box and he made no mistake from the penalty spot, 2-1.
But Dinnington fought their way back into the game and got their rewards when Owen Williamson was tackled from behind in the penalty area and a penalty awarded. Up stepped Declan Stevens and he placed his shot low into the corner to level the score 2-2.
Kicking up hill Dinnington still had to defend and it took a great header from Reece Peters from a cross from the left to the far post to keep Beighton out. Beighton continued to press and Tapi Mandishona was working tirelessly in midfield to break up their attacks and Jack Littlewood playing at centre half, got up well to head another cross clear from danger.
Another attack by Beighton saw them break through the Dinnington defence and their deflected shot saw Matt Kriel dive to his left to palm the ball away and leap to his feet to gather the rebound.
But as the half wore on the confidence retuned to Dinnington and it was their hosts turn to defend as Owen Williamson stole possession deep in the Beighton half and jordan voyse was inches away from connecting with his cross which was just too high.
Dinnington were determined to grab a winner and minutes from time Declan Stevens had a great chance to take the points after a perfect through ball from Owen Williamson but the keeper came quickly off his line and made the save as Declan tried to take it round him.
In the last action of the half Rowan Hill gave away a free kick just outside the D and Dinnington pulled every man back to defend it but they won possession and quickly countered through Louis Hellewell and he released Declan Stevens on the right who looked destined to score with only the keeper to beat but shot just over the bar, final score 2-2.
