Afternoon Delight
We were to enjoy a rare run out on a Sunday afternoon for an entertaining game of two halves in Dodworth.
Despite the hour, you’d have thought the first team had just got out of bed and struggled to make an impression on the opposing side and we gave the ball away far too cheaply. It was inevitable that we would concede and 3 minutes before the break we did! After a rare dressing down at half time we started again and competed much much better, the best opportunities coming through Oliver who was denied by their goalkeeper from a snapshot and a beautifully struck freekick. FT 1-0
The second team looked far hungrier and scored only 3 minutes into the match when Josh C’s bobbling corner kick was deflected at the near post. Despite playing some good football we were to be pegged back by a lovely taken goal by Dodworth. The match and our fortunes turned shortly into the second half as Josh P dove on a loose ball and then Reina style popped the ball forward, it took one bounce and went straight over his opposite numbers head into the goal. We pushed again and won a corner. Nick and Josh C’s short corner was crossed by Josh and Harry turned and calmly finished in a crowded box. The nerves were back on as Dodworth scored when we struggled to clear our lines, but with the clock ticking down Kaya pounced on a ball as the keeper palmed it away to hit home what would be the winner. FT 2-4
A great fight back this afternoon and something to build on as we get our first points on the board for the season.
Man of the matches were awarded to Oliver and Kaya.
