Well the weather didn’t win today and Town saw football action for a full 90 minutes on what was a superb pitch at Knaresborough.
Town started the game in top gear, with early efforts from Smith, Fairweather and Jon Roper all going close. Knaresborough too came close only to be thwarted by a good save as Weston took the ball bravely from the attackers feet. On the twenty minute mark another Smith effort narrowly missed after a great through ball from Wade. Knaresborough had a few long range efforts but never troubled Weston, Town controlled the game and Jamie Roper
in the centre of midfield was running the show. The half came to a close with a Cartledge effort narrowly clearing the cross bar after another good ball from Wade. It was hard to see how it was still goal less as Town totally dominated the first half.
HT 0 – 0
The home side must have had a real ear bashing at half time as from the re~start Town knew they had a game on their hands. The warning signs coming early on as Bradley hit a curling free kick that rattled Westons cross bar. Inevitably on 64 minutes Knaresborough took the lead, Town giving away a free kick on the edge of the area, Bromley only on the pitch for a matter of minutes stepped up to put an unstoppable shot just under the bar and out of Westons reach to give them the home side the advantage.
Town now had an up hill struggle on their hands and to be fair efforts from Smith and Jon Roper could have levelled things but it wasn’t to be. Reid came close with only minutes on the clock with a great back wards header that the keeper scrambled clear. The game ended with a Wade effort from 20 yards but it just wasn’t going to be Towns day.
On reflection if it had been a boxing match the ref would have stopped it at half time in Towns favour, but it’s a funny old game and some days all the hard work and skill can still leave you on the losing side. Onwards into 2013 where Town will want a result at Home against Clipstone, See you there.
