55 mins Matt Lapianka
Baris Northern Counties East League - Division 1
Attendance: 90
| Hemsworth Miners Welfare | 2 | vs | 1 | Dinnington Town |
On top, but missed chances was their downfall.
Early goal by Hemsworth kept Town at bay, but a great equaliser on 55 mins by Lepianka gave Town a chance. Hopes were dashed by a late captains goal.
Match Preview:
Town enter the first phase of a very tough week of travelling against three top teams.
Saturday they play ‘always competitive’ 7th placed Hemsworth MW, Wednesday they visit 4th placed Albion Sports, then finish the week off next Saturday with a trip to 3rd placed Glasshoughton Welfare. Results from these games will gauge Town’s recent improvement but hopes of extending their eight match unbeaten run to move them into the leagues middle ground will be tough.
Hemsworth MW with four defeats in their last six games will be buoyant after an impressive 4-2 away win at Hallam last Saturday. There is no doubt the game will be close affair, like this seasons previous encounters; a 2-1 home win (Reet and Lindley) in the Cup then two late goals (Fernandes and Taylor) gave Town a 2-2 home draw in the league. Town will not underestimate Hemsworth’s home advantage but should be confident at least to entertain their travelling supporters.
Town were hoping to field an unchanged team but as always their manager Steve Toyne has grown to expect the unexpected these days. Town draft in' Liam Smith in goal for injured Luke Hands and filling central midfield for unavailable James Roper comes in 'work-a-holick' Daniel Flynn.
On 12mins Hemsworth took the lead when Jack Wakefield headed in a cross from Lee Dawson.
18mins Trench free-kick was headed just wide by Lepianka.
27mins Town came close again with a shot from Wade after good work by Trench.
42mins Cartledge had a shout for a penalty when he was bundled to the ground by the keeper.
The game ended with Town having the chances to get the equaliser but Hemsworth take the half.
HT: 1-0
55mins Town got a deserved equaliser when Matt Lepianka scored with a low shot after great play on the right from Trench and Smith.
Town had a great chance to take the lead on 68mins after great work by Matt Smith when he crossed for Cartledge who just missed with a header.
69mins goalkeeper Liam Smith saved Town when he put the ball out for a corner but the from the corner Dean Foley scored with a low shot for Hemsworth.
72mins Matt Smith went close with a header but the Hemsworth keeper flapped the ball away.
78min Damon Liddle was thwarted by an other great stop by Liam Smith.
82 mins after great wing play by Coulbeck when he crossed for Daniel Flynn to fire just wide of the post.
Town will be disappointed to go away with nothing from a game of so many chances.
Hemsworth MW team: Walston, Storr, Hart, Impey, Foley, Emson, Dawson, Wakefield, Hayward, Harley- Henley, Haywood.
DTFC team: Liam Smith, Coulbeck, Sykes, Ramsden, Lepianka, Matthew Smith, Wade, Jon Roper (75 Khutsishvili), Flynn, Cartledge, Trench.
On reflection Town can take many positives away from today's game. Both deputies fitted in well. 'Laid back' Liam Smith had a great game in goal saving the only other two chances Hemsworth had. Daniel Flynn had a slow start but when he got up to speed with the game he showed touches that would grace the next level. The game was lost but the entertainment continues.
MOM: Matt Smith for another outstanding display.
