Must be the weather but the attitude was a vast improvement for this game.
Newton batted first, and got off to a steady start. However, our fielding was MUCH better and we restricted them in the field. James Wilson
was the first to strike, Adam Oldfield
the catcher. This was followed by an excellent run out, then Harry Wilson struck next, the catcher again being Adam (Not bad for somebody who dropped 2 the night before! Well done mate). However, one of the Newton batters (Matty Edwards) decided to attack and scored an excellent 23 before being caught and bowled by James Wilson
, Newton finished on 83. Their top scorer however was extras at 24, 17 of these being wides. We really need to take more care with our bowling. One or 2 of you seem to have "lost" your action, which I'll try and iron out at next practice.
Reece and Oliver opended the innings, Oliver going quickly for 1. This brought James Wilson
to the crease, and the score steadily increased with some fine shots from both James and Reece but more importantly some excellent running between the wickets. Reece retired with an excellent 25, James being joined by Billy. The run rate dropped whilst Billy got used to the conditions (he's not used to sun!), then James was out for an excellent 19. At this point it could have gone either way. But Billy and Ellis attacked in one over taking 11 off it, and some excellent running took us to victory with 3 balls to spare. Billy, after a sticky start, finished on an excellent 23 not out and Ellis on 5 not out.
As Harry Wilson sat ready to bat for AGES, he can open next week, which is the last game against Old Glossop (assuming Woodley don't get in touch with me. Again i find I have to appoint a Man of the match and this week it's James Wilson
for his 2 wickets, 19 runs and overall enthusiasm at BOTH games.
