Over 300 runs were scored in the Under 17s match on Monday.
Mottram batted first against a Dinting team missing three bowlers, and despite an early run-out scored steadily against our bowlers, despite a fiery and accurate opening spell from Aiden. We used 8 bowlers in total, with Ryan Townsend and Adam Oldfield taking the other wickets, and generally the bowling was good, although as usual too many wides were bowled. The Mottram batting line-up was very experienced and they batted with style and confidence, punishing the bad ball and running well between the wickets.
In reply, Aiden got a leading edge in the second over to perish for 10, but then Tom Wyche and Leon Walsh embarked on an unbeaten partnership that got better as it went on. Both batted slowly at first against some accurate bowling, but then started to play their shots. Tom was particularly aggressive, hitting 5 sixes in a superb 79 not out, and Leon finished with a very impressive 25 not out.
A very entertaining game, and once again credit to the young lads who are not overawed bowling against much older and more experienced opponents. Thanks again to Ped for umpiring, and to Andy for opening the bar.
