They made the long journey up the M40 to take on Banbury 3rds. They were greeted when they arrived by grey skies and light drizzle and a very wet ground and a game of cricket looked like a very long shot. However the ground staff did a sterling job and a start time of 1.30pm was agreed. New 2nd team captain Matt Dodds won the toss and asked the Banbury to bat on what was a green looking wicket. Banbury were indebted to John Wright who anchored the innings with a well constructed 50 in Banbury’s total of 161 all out in their allotted 48 overs. The Dinton attack shared the wickets around with Alan Massey 3-51, Ayaz Butt 3-23, Faisal Ali 2-28 & Kelvin Ripley 1-25.

In reply Dinton set about their target in steady fashion with Faisal Ali contributing 28. However it was a fantastic innings from opener Alan Massey that swung the game in Dinton’s favour. He batted all the way through the innings for a superb 93 not out and with the help of Kelvin Ripley took 30 off the last 3 overs to secure a memorable win with Kelvin scoring 6 off the last two balls of the game. So it’s a winning start for new captain Matt Dodds and hopefully a sign of things to come.
