Duncan West, the retiring Diss RFC President had his last Home match fittingly against old friends Holt. The pre match Lunch again provided by Tracey Davies and her team from The Park Hotel was very well attended with over 160 enjoying an excellent meal. In his post lunch speech Duncan made his farewell with his usual polish and whit. Edward, a senior member of the Harrison Dynasty who have been the backbone of holt over the years and who presented the Harrison cup for which the two teams were competing responded for the visitors. He briefly gave the history of the friendship between the two clubs and made an impassioned plea for this to continue down the generations. What followed was unprecedented. The whole of his audience sprang to its collective feet and gave him a standing ovation .
On Sunday a Diss Under 21 side played in the inaugural Eastern counties returnee festival, held at Southwold. Diss arrived on the coast with 16 players 12 forwards and 4 3/4s. Diss played Hadleigh in their first match and lost a very close encounter by one try to nil. Next up were the hosts who they beat by two tries to one. A very strong Colchester side made them fight all the way but were rewarded with a victory by three tries to two This victory put them in to the final where they again met Southwold, their opposition had lasted better and deservedly won the final by three tries to one.
