Norwich Union 22 – 44 Diss 3rd XV, 15th October 2011
With Southwold 1st’s unable to raise a team against Diss Saracens it was a strong third team that travelled up to Norwich to play the Norwich Union side.
Captain for the day, veteran William Foote, urged discipline from the squad against a large and combative opposition. Early Diss pressure resulted in a lineout in the opposition 22 metre line, a clean catch by Scott Beacon was presented to Baz Teare whose turn of pace saw him beat several defenders to touch down for the first try.
A great running line from Chev Trede broke the defensive line, followed by a wide pass to the supporting Owen Atkinson
resulted in a second try that made up for Welsh disappointment earlier in the day. Diss then conceded yet another penalty and three points to Norwich Union but soon hit back with two more tries from Steve MacQueen
and then Mitch Havers after a trademark show and go from fly half Seb Goodge
who added the conversion.
After a scuffle involving Foote, a resolute Norwich Union team hit back with a try before the break. The second half saw two tries for Pat Trede, two conversions for Goodge and great running from Carl Webster
who was a constant problem for the Norwich team. After repeated infringements from Foote the Norwich Union team managed a couple of consolation tries but the day belonged to the Diss Blues.
