L & Y Under 16's 24 : 29 Diss Under 16s - 26th March 2017
Diss take the honours away from home
The teams met for a third time this season in a deciding fixture having won one each. Diss got off to a typical slow start, clearly more affected by the changing clock’s. From the kick off by L & Y a penalty was conceded and Diss soon found themselves facing a lineout close to their own line. Rather than the expected driving maul L & Y moved the ball quickly through their backs and soon had the first try under the posts which they converted.
From the restart Diss soon found themselves under pressure again and L & Y scored another converted try to move 14 points clear. This finally stirred Diss into action and as they won some ball they moved it to their pacey backs who made good ground, allowing George Jones to score close to the posts, which he then converted himself. With self-belief growing Diss came again and moved the ball wide at every opportunity, but despite good runs from Webster, Strange and Jacka the L & Y defence held firm. Eventually from a 5 metre penalty Miles Smith crashed over for Diss’ second try, converted by Jones to level the scores.
With half time approaching Diss again attacked in the wider channels and Nat Strange scored in the corner to give Diss a half time lead of 19 to 14.
Expectations for a free scoring second half in great conditions were not realised as the defence of both sides had the upper hand. After some missed tackles by Diss L & Y scored again to level the scores once more. A close game continued in similar vein with Diss adding another try through Nat Strange and after more pressure on the L & Y line a clearing kick was gather near half way by Strange who dodged half the L & Y team to score a fine individual try. Despite conceding one more try Diss held on for a narrow victory.
