Well deserved win for 3rd XV
Diss 3rd XV 19 - 12 West Norfolk 2nd XV
Diss 3rd’s captained by newly appointed Will Baldwin began their merit table season with a well deserved win against their West Norfolk rivals.
With a younger new-look side from previous years plus a few added veterans, Diss began brightly and managed to score early with good forward domination with Blomfeld, defying his years, making breaks and Gowing solid at the heart of the forward play Diss managed to score out wide with the ball going through all the backs hands finished off by Ian Lemon in the corner, Goodge converted. Soon after, another try was scored out wide again after Diss won a lineout, with the continued good passing game, Goodman and Goymour combined to release Naz Gurgin to score in the corner.
West Norfolk rallied and scored a try soon after when a period of pressure found their centres in space to score with an overlap. This was to be the only score of the half for the West Norfolk side as Diss replied with another try after considerable pressure from good quality forward play, especially from new recruit Gill and captain Baldwin, this paid off and led to Goodge, who is playing better than ever, to set up the backs, just as Gurgin looked like he was going to score again he released Doug Moir to go over from close range.
After a range of replacements at half time Diss became slightly disjointed and allowed West Norfolk to score under the posts but this became the only score by either team of the half as the game became a stalemate with Diss holding on to recorded a deserved victory.
