DC travelled to Strabane to face a young but highly skilled Sion Swifts team, that despite being a few leagues lower than DC, possess alot of quality within their team.
The hoops, savaged by injury could only field 11 fit players meaning they had know substitutes to call upon. The home side capitalised on this by storming into a 3-0 lead after 25 minutes. Despite this early set back, the hoops continued to try and play their way back into the game and were rewarded by a great goal from Rachel Laverty who finished off a flowing DC move.
On 35 minutes DC were involved in one of the most bizzare decisions you are ever likely to see from a qualified referee. Lauren Moore got in behind the defence and was 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper. Moore calmly rounded the onrushing keeper, who in turn took the striker down with a knee high challenge inside the box. As the referee blew her whistle, everyone assumed the keeper would be sent off and a penalty awarded to the hoops, however there was massive disbelief when the referee awarded a free kick to the home side for a "foul" on the keeper!
After this DC lost their way a bit and were hit with 2 more goals to trail the strabane side by 5-1 at half time.
If the 1st half performance is ranked as one of the worst from the hoops, then the 2nd half would surely ranked as on of the best as DC completely took the game to their hosts and dominated the 2nd half. Despite their dominance however, they found the home keeper in splendid form, who kept out a number of goal bound shots until 75 minutes when Tamsin Strain finally scored after a long period of pressure. DC had further chances through Lauren Moore, Mairead McLaughlin and Mandy Timmons but they failed to add to their tally until the 90th minute when Rachel Laverty scored from 18 yards.
DC Team: Patricia Neilen, Sarah Corr, Jenny Brady, Jenny Waide, Naomi Warner, Rachel Laverty, Mairead McLaughlin, Louise Doherty, Mandy Timmons, Tamsin Strain, Lauren Moore.
