Stand in skipper Myers leads 3s to victory!

1 month ago By Toby Blood

2 wins from promotion for 3s

Dorking 3s welcomed Kingstonian CC to Westhumble with a strong looking team despite being without suspended skipper Tommy Chisman and on holiday vice captain Andy Halliday. Stand-in skipper, Conor Myers, immediately emulated Tommy by losing the toss; Dorking were put into bat.

On a tricky looking wet pitch after the week’s rain deluges, the opening pair of Peter Horton and Freddie Edwards batted excellently to get Dorking off to a good start. Horton eventually fell for 32 with the score on 65, top edging a full toss to short fine leg. Rob Howlett then got a good nut first up so it was down to Aaron Buller to support Freddie. Aaron fell for a solid 12 in an important 77-run partnership (that included a fair few extras!). Matt Howlett followed soon after before Freddie conspired to miss out on a ton by holing out to mid off on 87. It was an exceptional knock from Freddie. Myers then managed to run himself for a duck but Dave Young (12), George Edwards (19 not out) and Cam Homewood (big 6 and out!) managed to get Dorking up to 200 off their 45 overs.

Dorking opened the bowling with Will Phillips and Conor Myers as they looked to defend a good total. One Kingstonian opener went after the bowling but was well caught off Willips at Tommy’s usual fielding position of mid off by Myers. After decent opening spells, Dorking looked in control but as some rain came in, pushed to bowl 20 overs quickly which would make it a game. Dave Young came into the attack and picked up an early wicket, well caught one-handed by Buller behind the wicket. But Kingstonians also had an eye on the rain so tried to push up their run rate. However, two wickets from DY and Jack Homewood, both caught in the covers by Noisey and Willips, pegged Kingstonians back well. Cam Homewood then came on and bowled very well. With Freddie Edwards at the other end and a good buzz from the fielders, runs were hard to come by and the required rate shot up. Freddie picked up a wicket LBW and Cam only went for 7 runs in 7 overs, picking up two wickets, both caught by DY. Jack then came back on to finish things off. He picked up 2 in 2 (another catch for Myers and one bowled) before then wrapping things up with the final wicket (caught by Rob at deep mid wicket).

An excellent all round performance from Dorking 3s means 2 more wins from their final 2 games would secure promotion.
