The Miracle at Normandy...
Dorking CC 96 All Out, Horley CC 95 All Out
Dorking’s Surrey Trust Travelled to Normandy to Play Horley CC in the Surrey Trust Tier 2 Final.
Upon arrival the Horley Fans turned up in full noise fresh off the coach with beers in hand and ready to sing their hearts out.
With the weather being wet and the pitch looking damp and green both captains were keen to win the toss and bowl. Horley’s captain Charlie Robins was delighted to see a tails land and gave the fans a huge fist pump. This is when Dorking heard the first of many Horley songs. “Stuart Macpherson… handsome and fearsome” being one of the crowd favourites.
With the Pitch favouring the bowlers, Horley took early wickets. Dorking Slumped to 25-4 and in serious trouble. Ben Rogers batted very well earning the top score of the day with 24. Charlie Edwards supplied some much-needed support and key runs from the lower order took Dorking to 96 before being bowled all out.
Then the rain picked up but Dorking were keen to fight and believe that they could still turn this around. Skipper Ward took the new ball and had instant impact when bowling a wicket maiden in first over of the innings. Travis Blood Bowled lovely economical spell with the Buzz in the field incredible. Ward then picked up another and 10-2 became 35-5 with kelsey coming on and claiming two huge wickets and Max Ridler claiming his 1st of the match. At the halfway stage entered “Stuart Macpherson… handsome and fearsome” he looked to take the game away from Dorking he and Sam Remfry both scored well earned 18. The Moment of the match came from Charlie Edwards when Dorking looked like they were beaten, Charlie produces an incredible Hattrick!! Horley were never shy of the total and kept ticking along but losing wickets also. Then with only 6 runs to win off 7 overs and 1 wicket for Dorking no one know where this game was going. Horley on 95-9 needing 1 run to tie and 2 runs for the win. Skipper Charlie Robins on strike to be a hero, tries to hit one of the top to seek victory but skies a Match Winner straight underneath Dorking’s Skipper Ward. With his Legs Wobbling and the ball in the wind and rain Ward positions himself and ball falls into his hands... Crowd run on the pitch and Dorking are in huge celebrations. Charlie Ending Figures of 5-16 off 4.5 overs.
