Thanet kindly played hosts to Dover and Whitstable in a late arranged fixture. The pitch was in remarkable condition considering the atrocious weather of the previous 24 hours allowing entertaining rugby to be played by all sides.rnrnDover first came up against a well drilled Whitstable side, and for once, played from the first whistle. Dover’s forwards demonstrated good technique in the scrum to hold their own against a larger pack and produced some excellent driving mauls. There was very little to choose between the teams and the only score of the game came from a breakaway try to give Whitstable victory.
The next game against Thanet ended scoreless, but it was not due to the lack of effort. Dover had the better of the territory and possession creating numerous try scoring opportunities, but some resolute defence by Thanet meant they were able to keep their line intact. Again, Dover’s pack held their ground against an even larger set of forwards, securing good ball for the three quarters to attack the Thanet line. Both teams contributed to a very entertaining game.
This was by far the best rugby the U12’s have played this year. They could not be faulted for effort and commitment, but what was more pleasing was that all the team remained focused throughout both games and are starting to gel and play for each other. It was great to watch.
