Royal British Legion opens new branch in Dover - Supported by Dover Rugby Club

Dover RFC look forward an enjoyable and mutually rewarding association with the new Dover Whitecliffs branch of the RBL.

Incredibly Dover has been without a branch of the RBL for many years, with local members having to rely on regimental associations and RBL branches in neighboring towns.

Dover Rugby Club are keen supporters of the RBL and following discussions with local RBL members had agreed that forming a local branch was important and offered their help and co-operation.

Following an open meeting at Dover RFCs Crabble base on Thursday 6th August 2015, with around 50+ interested parties in attendance, the new branch was launched. Under the watchful eye of the Kent RBL Chairman Richard Cast and Secretary Terry West, plus Dover RFC chairman Richard Catt, DDC representative Una Mills, past mayor Bob Markham and the Poppy Appeal representative Diane Abraham proceedings were conducted in an official but relaxed atmosphere.

The new branch is to be named “Dover Whitecliffs Branch” and awaits its registration number which will be issued centrally by the RBL in the next few weeks. An interim committee was voted in with the key posts going to: Gary Gunner (Chairman), Ted Smith (Vice Chairman), Phil Hackett (Secretary) and Christine Morton (Treasurer).

Dover RFC for their part has initially agreed to the RBL Dover branch using their club house for their committee meetings each month on a Thursday evening. Dover RFC chairman Richard Catt said; We are a community club and while we are here for rugby first, and make this clear to all other clubs, are delighted to be associated with, support and assist this important organisation, and look forward an enjoyable and mutually rewarding association with the new Dover Whitecliffs branch of the RBL.
