Perry leads the way

An exciting 20-point win at Enville sees the Fourths up to third spot in the table just two points behind leaders Old Hill.

Having won the toss skipper Peter Gurr decided to bowl and was delighted by a lively opening spell from Nate Walker-Cox (1-13), who was backed up by the entirely junior Spa attack. Tight bowling from the three seamers was supported by good fielding and the spin attack of Matt Blackmore (3-41), Cam Mosely (3-26) and Jacey Foster (2-10) as the home side reached 152 for 9.

The Droitwich reply did not go as planned with early wickets seeing all of the Spa top four back in the pavilion for 30 runs. It took veteran Steve Perry (40) and Mosely (31) to steady the ship and combat the all-senior Enville attack.

When Mosely holed out to mid wicket with an un-timed pull shot, fiery opening bowler Walker-Cox supported Perry until he was also caught when looking to hit out. At this point Spa were still 30 runs short with seven overs to go.

With four overs remaining, Zak Mountford and Foster still needed 20 runs to see their side home. With a rapid learning curve in the art of running in the final overs, Foster led the run chase with well struck fours until the first ball of the final over where Mountford drove the ball back past the bowler and the Spa pair scrambled the two runs to secure a nailbiting yet superb victory.
