Six for Smith

A six-wicket haul from spinner Joe Smith got the Seconds back on track at Bromsgrove and inspired an incredible seven-wicket win.

The youngster claimed all his victims in his second spell to return 6-54 and stop the home side as they threatened to put more than 300 on the board.

Paul Hutchins (87), Barry Hope (66) and Chris Burford (32) were all dismissed by Smith as Spa dragged themselves back into the game as Bromsgrove were all out off the final ball of their innings for 273.

What followed after tea was a wonderfully-paced reply by the Droitwich top order as the ball was despatched to the boundary with regular frequency to leave the visitors 137-1 at drinks - exactly half way to their target.

James King hit a superb 68 but when he and Dave Huntbatch fell in the same over to leg-spinner Sam Johnson, the match hung in the balance.

Paul Spregg (62 not out) then joined Ashley Walton (89 not out)to share an unbeaten 120-run partnership and seal a fantastic victory with two overs to spare.

The win also ensured Droitwich remained in the promotion places and crucially put 20 points between themselves and third placed Enville, who lost another run fest against Chaddesley Corbett.
