Hard work in the heat

The Girls under 13s team and their followers could be forgiven for thinking they were in Kolkata not Colwall for their latest fixture on Monday - the hottest day of the year so far.

Unperturbed in the 30-degree heat, the Spa side put on a disciplined bowling performance on a sun-baked wicket, halving the number of extras from previous games and taking five wickets, including a spectacular running boundary rope catch from Katie P in an aggressive fielding display.

However, the girls were up against a well practiced Colwall team who took every opportunity to hit the fence notching up an impressive 16 boundaries in a total of 303.

Olivia and Katie J were the first pair to come out after a rather unexpected and very welcome light tea and delivered an impressive running performance for the loss of only one wicket. Next out were Hattie and Lottie, who faced some accurate bowling that meant scoring opportunities were few and far between.

Katie A and Bella then took to the crease and proceeded to put on a great tactical display of running the overthrows. Finally with their side behind the run rate, last pair Ellie and Katie P came out all guns blazing, crashing the ball over the fence four times and amassing an impressive 26 for their four overs - 18 of which came from the latter's bat to win her the player of the match award.

Sadly it was not enough to prevent Spa from losing the match by 36 runs but they are already looking forward to turning out again next week against Himley but hopefully some cooler temperatures!
