So with 7 days to go until the start of the next pre-season, some of you will be wondering where the time has gone since the last games of the season. Others will be berating themselves for not doing more to keep themselves fit during the off-season, whilst others will be keen to see the extra work they’ve put in, pay off, as they hit the ground running.
It’s a positive time as players will be heading to Gosforth Fields next Tuesday, wondering what the sessions will involve……..How tough will the fitness be? Will we see any balls for the first month? How many new players will arrive?
All these questions will be answered sooner rather than later under the guidance of Head Coach, Darren Hall, as he looks to plot the route back to Midlands 1.
Promotion, will be a word often heard at the club from next Tuesday onwards. That is the focus. That is the intention. That will be the result!
The Senior players look forward to welcoming the first group of colts into training, as they progress through the transition from Juniors to Senior Players. Having taken in some of the rugby on show during the current Touch 7s Tournament, then there will be a good number putting their hands up for not just consideration into the Second XV, but there will be some who have every chance of putting on a First Team shirt during the year.
It all comes down to effort, buy-in and commitment. The club can only do so much to ensure the best facilities and coaching are provided. The rest comes down to you, as individual players, and how much you want the success.
I can tell you from experience that a rugby career doesn’t last forever. So make the most of it whilst you can. Don’t look back in 10, 20 or 30 years’ time with regrets.
Enjoy the coaching, the playing, and as important, the social aspect that comes with rugby! Be you juniors, seniors, past players, or just out and out supporters of this wonderful game!
