Dronfield Rugby welcomes new Assistant Senior Coach Sean Scanlon

The Club invites all senior players & U15,U16,U17s to attend 'Summer Pre-Season Training' which began last week.

Pre-Season Training will take place twice every week throughout the summer as follows: Tue - 7pm until 8:30pm - Thu - 7pm until 9pm

Training will be supervised by Richard Selkirk (Senior Coach) & Sean Scanlon (Assistant Senior Coach) supported by Coaches from the Junior Section and other invited guests.

Irish-born Fullback/Wing Sean Scanlon who recently signed for Doncaster Knights has spent the last three seasons with Rotherham Titans playing a crucial part in their playoff campaigns in 2013/14 and 2014/15.

The 27-year old started his rugby career with Irish Pro 12 powerhouse Munster Rugby, making a try-scoring debut in December 2011 versus Connacht. The full back collected age grade international honours with Ireland Under 20s winning seven caps.

We will also be welcoming John Stead & Warren from Sheffield U17/U18's who will be assisting with coaching Dronfield U17's.

Pre season starts 5th July at 7 o’clock and again on Thursday 7th, both sessions are at our fantastic home ground, Gosforth Fields. This will then continue throughout the summer.

After a hugely successful season for the Club as a whole, with both first and second teams gaining promotion, it is essential that we build on where we have got, and take full advantage of the opportunity to play at a higher level. Tuesday will also be the first session taken by new coach Sean Scanlon, who is currently going through his own pre season preparations at Doncaster Knights, and I’m sure we all want to give him a warm welcome.

There is good competition for spaces in both the 1st and 2nd team squads as both have retained all their promotion winning players as well as new faces being added. This will also see the first year of Dronfield's youth setup coming to fruition as last years U16's will now be able to filter in to the senior teams.

Pre season is a great opportunity for all players, both new and existing, to put their hand up and be noticed. With 2 long campaigns ahead, we will need 2 large squads, so if you are thinking of coming down, please do! All abilities are welcome, and also feel free to bring down any other players who may be interested.

Initially the sessions shouldn't last longer than an hour and will involve conditioned touch games as well as fitness work!

Thanks Matt
