Colts Blow away Ilkeston
A blustery day at Gosforth Fields saw the Colts see off Ilkeston in a really entertaining game.
Fist things first. Thanks to all the Ilkeston players and coaches for agreeing to loan Dronfield a player and play 14 aside.
Yet again we had too many last minute cry offs and the coaches really do need more notice if players are unavailable on the day.
The game itself produced 13 ( yes thirteen) tries with Dronfield putting in a really strong second half performance with the slope in our favour.
Ilkeston led 14 -12 at half time with Dronfield tries from Jo McCartney and also Kewell capping off a great forward effort. A good Dronfield effort.
Second half and Ilkeston took a 21 - 12 lead before Dronfield really clicked into gear.
Billy Wyton making a welcome return to Colts playing at centre rather than his usual scrum half position, showed some real maturity in his play and led the back line by example. Quick tries in succession for Caius, thanks to a great kick from Billy, Chris Heslam with an NFL like kick return and thanks to an assist from Billy or Fiddler one of the Ilkeston players who played really well for Dronfield.
A special mention to Harry's kicking who did well all game and kicked a final penalty at the end to put the game out of Ilkeston's reach.
Hopefully with more senior players returning over the next few weeks, the Colts can get some consistency of selection and regularly get 18 players out each week.
Under 18 National Cup next Saturday so a good moral boost before that! Special thanks to the Club Committee that we can prioritise that game as regards club selection picking from all available Colts.
