DRONFIELD ROCKERS BEAT MODS!
DRONFIELD 2ND XV 78 - 12 NOTTINGHAM MODERNS 2ND XV
Dronfield 2's were rockin' for their last league game of the season and ran up big score against league rivals Nottingham Moderns.
Dronfield as usual featured a blend of youth and experience most interestingly featuring former 1st team flanker Owen Evans at fly half, (memories of Melton Mowbray away about 7 years ago!) Dronfield played up the slope for the first half.
Moderns were in trouble from the start with a poor kick off giving Dronfield scrum ball. This was secured and the ball spread quickly for Clark Ossell to score with a break down the wing. Converted nicely by Owen. 7-0
On 9 minutes Dronfield attacked up the hill and moved the ball well with centre Will Fairbank scoring after a nice hand-off. 14-0
Moderns hit back straight away after some loose Dronfield defending 14-7
On 15 minutes Dronfield spread the ball well along the line with winger Josh Holloway on the overlap to score outwide. 19-7
On 25 minutes Dronfield scored a quality try with scrum half, Jack Longden making an incisive run from the back from 22 to 22 and giving a scoring pass to hooker Pete Walker. 26-7
On 37 minutes a Will Fairbank offload put the ball to Clark who again showed nice pace and ran it in from half-way for his second. 33-7
Just before the break a scrum move spread the ball wide for Josh Holloway to grab his second. 40-7
Dronfield opened up the second half with another try from a pack drive with flanker Paul Joyce in the driving seat to take the points. 47-7
On 47 minutes Jack Longden made a super break taking the ball into the 22 with a nice unload to support runner, lock Nige Westerman who shrugged off a couple of tackles to score. 52-7
First to bag a hat trick was Clark thanks to Jack catching out the slide defence to put him through. 59-7
Not to be out done Josh followed up on 57 minutes to grab his hat trick. 66-7
2 minutes later though and Dronfield gifted a try to Moderns. 66-14
Dronfield hit back on 63 minutes when turnover ball in midfield enabled Owen to make a decisive line break with a nice unload for the classy looking Jack to score another. 73-14
At this stage the Dronfield fell foul of the referee and gave a way a lot of penalties in the final minutes including a career rare yellow card for a perplexed Chaddy. There was one more score before the end, apologies to the scorer, not recorded. Final score 78-12
A great team performance at the end of a successful season for the 2nd XV at present top the league table though some fixtures remaining for other teams.
