After a 9-0 victory in our first encounter with Spurs, Sundays second round clash was also going to be a hard fought game with Spurs out to redeem themselves.

Despite the enthusiasm shown by Spurs the Bulls first XI were able to dominate the early exchanges maintain a majority of possession and field position in the Spurs half. Mitch “fistpump” Rea and Richie “fishbowl” McKeon were able to dominate the middle of the park which lead to our front men putting the Spurs keeper under constant pressure and it was only a matter of time before the opening goal came.

A well taken corner from James Leonard found Scott Fox open at the back post, and from near point blank was able to head the ball in. The second goal came shortly after, from Fox’s boot again after Mitch Rea stole the ball in the midfield and sent a pin point long through ball over the Spurs defence.

The match stayed this way for the remainder of the half. The half time talk was focused on rectifying 3 things, our movement off the ball, movement in the box and helping provide the defenders with some extra cover. Tom McKeon had to leave the field at half time with a shoulder injury with saw Gareth Williams take his place and Leonard shift to central defence.

Movement off the ball lead to Ray Pearsons first for the afternoon, lead up work by Gareth and three first time passes and a first time shot from Pearson in the box left the keeper standing flat footed and the ball in the top left corner.

Gareth first goal came shortly after lead up work from Jack down the left Gareth with a near open goal and Pearsons 2nd shortly after was also Created by Jack down the left and crossing to Ray to finish into an open goal.

Spurs had a couple of late 1 on 1 chances to score a consolation goal but both attempts were thwarted by Macca in goals. A couple of injury concerns to our 2 central defenders but a 2 week break should help ease the injury toll before taking a Westside after the long weekend.
