Past Players - Past Players 1
Adam Hughes
“The guy with the guns” as most people know him. He was introduced by Flano as Damo which added to the confusion but there is no mistaking his explosive play and he has made some telling contributions this season notably the try in the Leinster final. Adam also played for Leinster in the inter pro series which is excellent in his first season with us.
Alan Trenier
A serious defender and big physical player who gives his all in every tackle and every carry. Even gave a few teeth to the cause in the Leinster semi final. The guys in Tullamore will certainly remember him although that memory may be a bit shaky.
Arjan Delaney
A cross between Dutch and Irish parents and probably our first Dutch Exile. Only played the one game but really enjoyed it.
Boumarde
After 4 seasons I finally found out his full name. That said I can’t pronounce it so Bou is Bou. Bulked up after his injury last year and was back to his smashing best. Against Laois he made so many tackles in a row I thought he would pass out but that’s just the way he plays the game. Spent a lot of time practising his tattooing this year and you can tell he is right handed if you look at him in the shower!
Brian Flanagan
Flano is now the pivot from which the Exiles turn. This is both on and off the field. When he is on the pitch he takes control of all our plays in attack and he isn’t afraid to through himself into the hits. Off the field he looks after the Terenure side of things between rugby club and college. Still a key contributor with the A team and this year with the interpros. He always has a cheeky glint in his eye which makes me think he is chancing his arm at everything but so far so good.
Brian O’Brien
The juggle before one of his tries in the league rounds against Carlow was unbelievable but Bob has scored plenty of tries again this season and always works hard for the cause. I’d say he is the all time highest scorer for the Exiles over the years but we don’t have the evidence to prove it.
Carl De Chenu
Now the head coach of the Exiles and delighted to have someone else contributing. His approach freshened things up and although there were some more basic sessions from the old guys our players have learnt a lot more technique this year as a result of Fats training us. Also recruited well and without doubt the reason we had such a successful season is the input made by our most volatile and committed player. Not voted high on any referees polls though!
Carl Roche
Another stone lighter. At this rate there will be nothing left, especially if he keeps shaving (his head I meant!) Selflessly leant his girdle to my good self (Richard) so I can’t slag that off this year although he still has the best Moobs in the club. Think he has a picture of them in his car!
Chip Barnes
I think I owe Chip the biggest apologies and greatest thanks of anyone in the club. He is always happy to come along and get a game but he played more for the opposition this year than us and for that I am eternally grateful. Highlight was coming on a full back and leaving a ball to go dead which never did and they scored. The look of pure horror was priceless when he realised it was out of his reach but not the attacker. Made up for it though and put his body on the line to recover some pride.
Chris Condon
In his first season with the club Chris has got used to the game and played keys roles in the league rounds. Carried the ball really well in scoot sets and plenty of impact going forward.
Chris Pittman
The second part of the new coaching double act but slightly more laid back about things. His Leigh Centurions jersey is unforgiveable and for that there should be some sanction. Got out of the blocks with a delightful sidestep in Wicklow to score the first try of the season but then got sent off against Carlow in the second round. Didn’t see eye to eye with the referee’s decision but after the game was heard to say, “he had hold of my knee so I couldn’t do anything except knee him in the head.” Defence case rests!
Chopper
Finally got the legend of RLI and the Blues into the right jersey. Only just fit him in fairness but was a medium. Stars in the online video from the first Carlow game as he bursts a few attempted tackles. Was a long time making it to the bright side but now he’s here we want him here for good. I think Karl took all those pictures of you as evidence for the Exiles of 2002/3 but you are an Exile of 2010 and hopefully 2011 as well.
Colm Harper
No change again this year. Last year I wrote “Hopefully 2010 will be Colm’s year back in action.”
I’ll change that to 2011 ! Rumour has it he is starring for the Seapoint J3’s. Still can’t work out if he ever got the car taxed as seems to be able to get anywhere within a mile of his house but no further.
Columba Kelly
“Do you ever select friends plus one on facebook? It’s always tasty chicks who are friends of Columba’s” Arguably the best quote from the club captain one night at training. Not sure the girlfriend will be too happy about that but she won’t be able to catch him.
Conor McMahon
Spent most of the summer working away so didn’t get too much game time but always kept in touch and sounded like he was missing us a lot. That’s what I thought but Amsterdam does have it’s distractions and I’m sure he could have made a few more flights but something always seemed to come up!
Conor O’Donnell
Will be a fine player when he fills out! Played the one game against Carlow and think was involved in the Leinster interpro training. A tricky customer to tackle and ferocious in defence. Hopefully not the last time we see him with the Exiles.
Diego Aspesi
Still the most unusual substitution of the season was against the Eagles when Diego went on as second row when there were 10 other forwards waiting for a run. Not sure if it was lost in translation but I think when we pulled him ashore it was for his own safety.
Eamon Byrne
We didn’t play Eamon against Tullamore in the last league round so not to play too many and we still got penalised for playing too many so should have just let him have a run. Still sour about that whole affair but Eamon took it in his stride and kept coming back. A bull of a runner and all round gentleman.
Ed Whelan
Played one game for the opposition and tried to spear tackle Fats and then did his shoulder and went off to hospital. I think it’s his second season but hasn’t lasted 80 minutes yet so with a bit of luck it’ll all work out next season.
Garreth Lawlor
Finally got an Irish mobile so we could add his to team texts and that paid dividends. Has had a great year in various roles and made a big impact for us all year. I think he slipped Rochey some rohipnol at some stage because Rochey was telling me he was from the North and did something to do with kidneys. He’s actually from Wales and not in the kidney game at all. Still wondering what happened there.
Graham Crawford
Graham has had an excellent season for the Exiles again this year. Has even featured in the inter pro series for Leinster. No doubting who is Crawford junior when the junior Exiles are playing. Like a mirror image. Thanks also for the support of the good lady throughout the season.
Harley Murray
In the opening game of the season we were in a bit of a mess. Players didn’t really know each other and training was just a distant memory as the game pulled away from us against a club playing their first ever game of league. In came Harley and the Exiles clicked. Had a major input that day in getting us back into the game and who knows what would have happened if we had lost to the Vikings.
Henry Bryce
Can’t believe he plays on the wing in Union. One of the most laid back guys you’d meet unless you had to get by him. Played for us against Laois after turning up in the pimp mobile to watch. I’d say some driver is going to get the fright of their life when they see the cousins peeling out the back of the Direct line phone at the lights!
Ian McCarthy
Having a competition with Bou for the most tattoos. Will be a close one. New to the Exiles this year but certainly won’t be forgotten. His break in the Leinster final in Carlow was superb as was his run into touch against Tullamore in the league. Had to cheek to call me a grumpy old bastard!
Jack Cullinan
The most enthusiastic member of the Exiles and hopefully part of the new young look Exiles. A bull of a guy who wasn’t that enamoured with the tight fitting jerseys. For some reason he always wanted to do pure tackling drills at training. Made some serious hits during the year to prove his tackling was OK. Had the audacity to take Larry’s jersey in the Leinster final.
Jaroslaw Konopacki
Another player who came along but ended up playing for Wicklow in the first outing. Wasn’t able to play after that but is keen to stay involved next year and another recruit for Teck’s Polish Rugby League team.
John Anderson
After one game as the substitute hero in 2009 Jon has been almost ever present in 2010 and has worked the prop rotation really well. Takes his fair share of attention carrying the ball forward but a difficult unit to move. Has been one of the most reliable at training too and for giving lifts and all round good guy. Even got us some balls at training one night when Rochey made me leave the normal lot in my attic.
Jonathan Forde
Only really got to appear once this year against Wicklow and that was after I told him kick off was an hour after it actually was. Sorry about that.
Kevin McCarthy
After a few seasons away Kevin made it back to the Exiles but only for one game. A good game it was though and helped keep us focused against the Wicklow challenge.
Larry Faifua
Like Chopper, Larry is now back where he belongs in an Exiles jersey. One of the Samoan contingent who have been so effective for us this year. I’d say a gentle giant but that’s probably not true on the field. Has been pivotal to our season and adds that extra level of experience and go forward when we need it most.
Leo Auvaa
The first training session Leo attended was when his touch game had finished and we were doing a defensive drill. I was at full back and the line parted like Moses was coming forward and next off all it went dark and Leo ran through. Sidestepped him myself but had a bad back. Went on to dominate the season for the Exiles and certainly was the player of the Leinster league. Has more skills that is fair and his sidestep still defies gravity every time I see it.
Mackan McNicholas
Another new recruit to the Exiles and has played his part throughout the season in both games and training. Tenacious in defence and an all round honest player. Doesn’t shirk the work and gets involved constantly. Took me a while to get his name right. First I thought it was Declan then I thought it was a nickname for his surname. Think he emailed me to prove it was really his name!
Marty Hyde
A legend of the Exiles championship winning seasons was back in June and togged out for us against Laois. Still has the step and quality from years gone by and great to see him back in the team.
Matt Brown
Still hanging on in with the Exiles and turning out when he can. A player of real quality and experience and a good guy to have in the camp. Took a trip to Oz this year so didn’t make it to many games.
Michael Anderson
Every year we get calls and emails from Aussies lads in Ireland who just don’t show up after initial contacts and I thought Michael would be one of them after a few failed attempts to get to training. However, when he did make it he proved to be reliable and rock solid in the back row. A hard worker who does all the basics really well and one of the unsung heroes of this season. Got through a massive amount of work in defence and attack and set the platform for our backs.
Mike Summerell
Mike played with us a few seasons ago and is a classy full back who has pace and silky skills as well as being a favourite with the female Exiles supporters. Only made it to one game this year but created a try and was solid in defence. Hopefully he’ll be back in 2011.
Nigel Kinlan
Nigel played the first 4 matches of the season and then went off for the summer and was missed. Nigel continues to be the almost man of the Exiles. I hope to have him in the team for a full season at some stage to fulfil his potential and represent RLI at rep level.
Paul Bkay
The only ever present this season with the perfect 10 out of 10 although a few late arrivals. Was close to winning the club man of the year based on this but narrowly missed out. Never really sure where Paul’s best position is as he has pace and runs far harder than his weight would expect. Is illusive with ball in hand and appears all over the field in defence and attack. Best described as the perfect utility sub but will hopefully be here next year as a permanent fixture in the team again.
Rafael
The sidestep of the season against Athboy to start the game off really well. Considering he has had the knee rebuilt 3 times it was some achievement to step his weight off the bad knee and keep going to the line. Had to go for more surgery and will hopefully be back for us fully fit.
Richard Egan
10 years for the Exiles and out. A really good season to finish up on and proud of all the friends I have made and seasons I have played in the Exiles shirt. Time for a new era for the Exiles and I’ll be with you in some capacity or another but not playing. Can’t believe I had to wear a girdle to be able to play!
Sebastien Textoris
Seebass missed out on the business end of the season due to a stag and wedding in France so didn’t get to share in the great end of season but his contribution in the early rounds set us up to finish so well. Versatile in may areas of the Exiles game and his grapple tackles continue to get referees upset.
Sean Rees
Sean represented the Ireland students in the inter pro series this year and was unfortunate to pick up an injury in the friendly with Riverside College which meant he missed out on the Student 4 nations in Limerick. I’m sure though that he will be back to full fitness soon and regain his place with the Exiles and the Students. I’m even surer though that he will be back talking himself up and being the brunt of most abuse in the team.
Steve Szpara
A final hurrah for another seasoned veteran who played for the Exiles in the 2001 grand final and won it in 2002 and 2003. A fitting end to a career and a person who will be difficult to replace. His presence on and off the field is immense and has put body and soul on the line throughout the season.
Scott Broughton
The elder statesman of the team, Scotty has played for Terenure at union in years gone by but came to the Exiles via Ashbourne and Mr Szpara. A great year and nice to see a guy playing the game with so much enthusiasm and enjoyment. Always caused problems for the opposition and has a great natural eye for a pass. His best one though was the in the face pass he gave his mate Steve against Riverside and Steve got upended for his troubles,
Tyrone Taiepa
“He cuz, is that Joe Wallace” For those that remember Joe, Tyrone is ever bar of him in both looks and personality. A real character and class player to boot. Came along to the first game and made the difference which got us over the line and has been almost ever present since. A real game changer and brings added energy to our attack.
Tony Lee
The most bizarre red card I’ve ever seen. A kick Jean Claude Van Damme would have been proud of but at the wrong person! Unfortunately that was the end of his season as he was banned for the next game which would have been his last for the summer before he went travelling. 2011 could be the season to redeem himself.
Wojciech Sieczkowskiojtek
Teck has had another good season with the Exiles and continues to improve his game now he is firmly established in the pack. Big and physical player who has taken a few hard hits for the cause this year. Looks more like a mafia hitman in the huge black Merc. Congratulations also on the engagement and we wish you every success in the future. Still yet to get the Polish Rugby League team to play against Ireland but it will happen soon…
Player Review for 2009
Boumarde
Number one in the list and number one mentalist in the team. Unfortunate this year to suffer a broken collar bone and we all wish him the very best in his recovery. Let’s however look at a few aspects to the injury. Firstly, the moments before the tackle had at least four shoulder charge shots concurrently. Madness! Then after the break, he wanted to play on and got advice from everyone on the sideline except the doctor. Three weeks after the incident he goes back to the gym to do weights feeling like he’s made of iron. What a legend and what a madman. Hope to see him back next season.
Brian Flanagan
Another year in the A team and playing well. Has matured well over the last few years to show greater composure and continues to take control of the game and central to our attacking options. When we needed someone to arrange the training facilities in the college Flano was first to offer but then when the priests came round to check out who approved it it transpired that Flano might not be as well in with the college as I had first thought. Maybe next year we’ll ask someone else to sort this out if, and I quote, “the priests just think I’m a cheeky bollocks”
Brian Gill
One time appearance after his move to Cork but still showed what a class act he is and what an impact he can make to our team. Losing him was massive to us this season and hopefully he’ll still keep involved next year.
Brian O’Brien
I’m starting to run out of things to say about BOB. He is an ever present at matches and training year after year and is reliable at both wing and full back. Still has the pace and the finishing touch. I’m still waiting on the moment he tells me he’s moving to Donegal but knowing BOB he’ll still play with us.
Carl De Chenu
Only played the one game last season and was sent off after 2 minutes so delighted that he made 3 games this season. At the start of the year there was talk of him coaching a team out of DLSP so I was delighted he came along to us. Hopefully he’ll keep involved and maybe find a few new players for next season from Clontarf.
Ceda Byrne
I got an email from Ceda saying that he played with Terenure J4’s and wasn’t that good but lived nearby and fancied a run. It took me a few weeks to realise he was an Aussie! An unlikely looking rugby player with the long hair and laid back attitude but stuck well under the high ball at full back. Headed home towards the end of the season but contributed well with 5 games.
Carl Roche
Selfishly missed two matches this season. Can’t remember the excuses but they were poor. Claims to have lost a stone since the start of the season but this hasn’t affected his 36DD MOOBS which are a fine site in the changing rooms after a game. Not a hair in sight either but we won’t say anymore on that topic. Almost won an award this year due to his caller ID on his phone and his attempts to justify it to the coach. Still one of the best known players in the competition and will be some player when he gets himself fit!
Chip Barnes
Almost got me sacked by sending a mail entitled, “Yes I suck, I know…” but this was his American lingo and related to him not being available for 5 weeks because he’s still sitting his high school exams. A real character and good man to have around if only for the ER based stories from his time as an A&E doctor.
Chris Pittman
The Exiles own Peter Kay. A player who has played a good level back in the UK and has brought some great experience to the team. Very composed and skilled player and a funny lad to have involved. Still not sure if Tig and pass is a real alternative to touch and pass but it sounds good.
Colm Harper
Last year I wrote “Colm managed to get himself injured just before the season started and hasn’t really managed much game time this year. He has still been around a lot and helped out in training and at games which is greatly appreciated. Hopefully 2009 will be Colm’s year back in action.”
I’ll change the last line to 2010 !
Columba Kelly
Fame has gone to poor Columba’s head this season. He won’t get out of bed for less than a grand and insists on being called Noirin in the showers when Phil is around The lads have been very supportive while his sister appears on national television and have helped him not to miss her by bringing in pictures they find in the press so he feels better. Must have been very warm in those photo shoots!
His performance against the Eagles with his try celebration 360 spin and his impression of the waterboy when tackling will be stand out moments for the season.
Conor McMahon
Another person still at school when looking far too old. Conor came to the team as a centre and got a baptism of fire in the back row but put himself around well and gave his all in every game. Seeing him take out the rules of the game in the car on the way to Limerick and ask questions about them filled me with fear but when he got on the field he soon worked out all he needed to know was catch and duck.
Damien Wake
Although Damo got injured in the first game and hasn’t been able to shift it he has still been very involved and is always a firm fixture in the team. He may eventually be moving back to Oz later this year and we wish him and Jackie all the very best. This time we’ll make sure he does go and doesn’t just come back again in a few months. He may make an appearance for the old timers at the grand final as his final hurrah.
Dani Marquez
Also known as Dani Alvez, Dani was introduced to the Exiles by Brian Corrigan and is involved with Lansdowne. Hopefully he’ll make an appearance for us again as he has all the attributes of a great league player and really enjoyed his run out with us.
Danny Smith
Played in the last game against the Titans and did well. Brought along by Eric as cover for his dodgy ankle.
Ed Whelan
A pure legend, or so he told everyone. Ed came down and this was his first involvement with rugby league. Looks like he has good skills in attack in the centre channels and did well in training. Unfortunately got injured playing soccer so missed most of the season. Still seen on the Wednesday night in Terenure but with a tag referee’s shirt on.
Eric Roberts
Will he play, won’t he play. Sometimes I’m not sure if Eric knows but when he does he certainly adds a dynamic to the Exiles with his play around the ruck. Attacks the line really well and puts in the work in defence too. Had a blinder against the Titans in Limerick. His pass out the back of his hands from the play of the ball against Tullamore in the first game still puzzles me.
Etoini
Played in the last game against the Titans and did well. Had been promised as a player all season by Phil Cass but never made it until at the end. A huge unit and a serious afro. Maybe next year!
Garreth Lawlor
Similar to last season in that Garreth was away a lot with work commitments but when he played he shows that he is a class player and someone who can add a level of skill in to the team. Still hasn’t got an Irish mobile so not sure if he gets to hear about all the games but maybe next year!
Glenn Noble
The kiwi accent resulted in me calling him Glynn for most of the season and that’s pretty much stuck now. Glenn has been a massive contributor to us this year in his first season of league. Formed a great partnership with Steve and really played well down that channel. A strong runner with great footwork and not afraid to put on a hit either. Always looked to be enjoying himself which obviously wasn’t always the case. Took a big hit at home to Carlow but got up and played on
Graham Crawford
Graham joined us from the Eagles after moving closer to us. This resulted in stupid texts from his former coaches and unfortunately Graham was away for both games against them so didn’t get a chance to put that right. Hopefully he will next year. A really nice guy and capable in both the centre and the loose forward roles.
Gareth Crawford
Graham’s younger brother and fair to say that Graham got the bigger portions at the dinner table. Turned out for us once but hopefully wasn’t put off permanently. Hope to see the two lads again next season.
James Lewis
Another new member of the Exiles to hail from the US of A. Talked well in defence and got stuck in. Unfortunate to pop his shoulder against Carlow and had to head back home. Maybe he’ll be back over again and will rejoin us.
John Coleman
Has impressed for the Exiles and the A team and has certainly made a good impression with the senior team management. Will be pushing for inclusion in the senior team training sessions later in the year in Ireland and rightly so. Popular also amongst the fans but not sure why really! Was glad my wife and kids were not close enough at Carlow when he decided to show his bag to the Carlow lads.
John Sharpe
Unfortunately for Sharpey he broke his collar bone in his Rugby Union final just before the start of the season. Fair to say he isn’t a great spectator but has helped out in the background organising things with Terenure. Has been seen running along the Liffey and getting himself back in action and hopefully ready for next year.
John Anderson
Made his debut as a late arrival at the Eagles game in ALSAA. Never have I been so happy to see another forward with boots and ready for a game. Got into the game quickly and carried well. Seemed to attract penalties too as the opposition tried to put him backwards but he kept bouncing them off. Hopefully will bring a few lads with him next year.
Jonathan Forde
Jon was an ever present at the start of the season but didn’t get too many games in. Has all the raw materials to be a strong running centre and hopefully will be back involved next year.
Jonny
I don’t think I’ve ever heard an Aussie giving out for a person bigging themselves up but this was a first. Apparently after a few beers after the Carlow game, Jonny was not only going to play for Leinster, England and the Lions but also to captain England to the ashes as well. I wish I’d been on hand to hear this. After his first appearance at training when he said he saw himself as a bit of a Terry Newton I suppose the story can be believed. By far the poshest player the Exiles has ever had.
JP Swaine
At the start of the season I had high hopes for JP but a blow to the cheekbone in the first game saw the end of that. He had done great in training getting to grips with the game and was moving well in the back row. Played above his weight and loved the work. With a bit of look his injury will be sorted and he’ll be raring to go and get back involved. Has to have been the most unlikely and unlucky elbow ever seen.
Karl McDonagh
The man won’t go a season without getting onto the field. Appeared against the Eagles in ALSAA for the last few minutes. Not sure if he got his hands on the ball but was certainly trying. Maybe had something to do with me at hooker not passing it to him. Became a dad during the year and congratulations to Karl and Sarah and baby Ruadhri. Still one of the old guard at the Exiles.
Kinza
One of the great Tongan hopes promised from Phil but the one game was all that he managed. A serious runner and made a big contribution in that game.
Matt Brown
Matt got married since last season and is about to become a daddy so all the best to the family. Matt still managed to get plenty of game time and thankfully so. Although, turning up at half time for one game then having to run to the toilet another time put him in contention for the Marty Hyde award. A player of real quality and this season the nest side step in the team, but only to the left I notice.
Mariusw (a.k.a. Mario)
When Mario loses control on the field, and that is most games. The opposition really don’t know what to do. His youthful looks but massive frame confuses them and the roars in Polish are a little worrying too. Mario has developed well this year and has controlled his aggression. Mario carries the ball into contact well and is a difficult man to stop.
Nicolas Galy
Nicolas came down to the Exiles with Seb and was impressive in the training sessions with his handling and pace. Didn’t really get a chance to see this in action as he only made one game and was a little rough on the rules.
Nigel Kinlan
Nigel suffered a hand injury in his first game and took him a while to get it looked at but at this stage it needed surgery so only got the one game. Shame that this is the second year Nigel hasn’t been a permanent fixture with us.
Phil Cass
His retirement along with the rest of the pack last year really set us back but having Phil around on the sideline is worth a player in the team on its own. Constantly the person causing trouble and playing practical jokes he is also the man to lighten any dressing room. A real character and it’s a shame all his talk of getting loads of players was complete rubbish. Good man Phil! Even worse was the fact that all year we had no pack and Phil was running water and then on the last game when we had 9 subs he put on the boots!!!
Richard Egan
Getting older and not necessarily wiser but I can blame it on everyone else as coach which is great. Really enjoyed playing but disappointed that we went from 28 players at training to small enough numbers at games. These things are cyclical though so next season will be better and great to see so many new local lads. A few good new players who will hopefully bring friends with them next year and as ever, great to see the lads I only see for a few short weeks in the summer. Thanks lads.
Richard Keatley
On the phone this lad sounds about 40 and a proper posh boy but in reality he looks about 19. Claims to be 26 but not sure myself. Almost as posh as his mate Jonny but not quite. The X5 belies a man looking for a pro contract but hopefully he’ll get a few trials and pick something up in the winter. Played with us at wing and hooker and also with the A team and a player that has good qualities in attack and defence.
Ryan Dufty
The smallest man on the team but the biggest attempted dummy when playing touch and pass. Really enjoys the social side of things and seems to focus heavily on the after game practice. Was worried when I saw him in the second row against the Eagles but not afraid to get involved. Claimed to have a sore shoulder last week but ironically this coincided with his girlfriend getting into town.
Sebastien Textoris
Seb has again been massive for us this year. Has played at centre, stand off and back row. Has a great array of skills and knows the game inside out. His dad is now the French A team coach and that may help get some games arranged next season for the Wolfhounds. A real gentleman and all round nice guy.
Sean Rees
Probably the mouthiest member of the squad but a close run thing with Columba. Think he wins though because he is here for every session. Never short of effort and commitment and really gives his all for the team. Seems to attract abuse and hardship but most of that is self inflicted. Has played in every game this season and the only one to do so and that reflects how much he has contributed to the team and sure he will be back next year.
Simon Thwaites
A newcomer to the Exiles but had played before with Athboy and the development team. A big abrasive South African who was prominent at training and during games. Never shy in coming forward and making his opinions known. Hit the line well and defended strongly.
Steve Szpara
A legend before he put on his boots! Already in the hall of fame and has an award named after him. What more can this man do. Well, play every game would have been nice and he nearly did that. Sometimes had to do a little more game time than he had in mind and by sometimes I mean every game but led from the front and captained the team well. Quote of the season was “you need to find the inner coal miner in you” Class. A new baby on the way and we wish you and Celine the best with that.
Tim Hale
Played in the last game against the Titans and did well. Brought along by Eric as cover for his dodgy ankle.
Tom Hynes
Although he moved to Galway the man just won’t lie down. He came along to Limerick to face the Titans and put his body on the line like a young man. Probably didn’t feel that way on the Sunday though. Once an Exile always an Exile
Tony Byrne
Came along from Terenure and really impressed from the first session. Even Steve commented that he had skills, which is a massive thing on its own. Someone who I think will really take to the game and hopefully enjoyed it too. Was always involved and gave everything. By the end of the season he had developed into a sound league player and delighted with his attitude and effort throughout. An all round sound bloke.
Tony Lee
Finally finished his exams but then goes and gets a job working Wednesday nights and Saturdays from three. Got to two games and was as reliable as ever. He did manage to make it into conversations most weeks but that was generally Sean talking about the weekend festivities of Tony and Nigel. Maybe next year!
Wojciech Sieczkowskiojtek
Teck called me before the season to see if he could move into the back row as he had put on 3 stone over the winter. I wasn’t too sure but then after the first game I knew he had made a good call. A big unit on the move and played really well all season. Took some fierce hits bringing the ball into contact but never shirked the effort especially when there was a scarcity of forwards. All this on top of having a bad illness early in the season. Teck hopes to develop rugby league in Poland when he returns but we hope to keep him here as long as possible.
