JON Higgins says Dudley Kingswinford should expect one of their toughest tests of the season at Longton this Saturday.

The Heathbrook outfit are gearing up to play every weekend until the end of March following the cold snap, as they look to secure the National Three Midlands play-off spot.

Joint-head coach Higgins believes the tests will not come much tougher than the trip to Trentham Fields, where the sixth-placed hosts have a formidable home record and pushed champions-elect Rugby Lions close in their previous game.

He said: “We knew at the turn of the year the game at Longton would be up there with South Leicester in terms of toughness.

“This is a very big game for us and we are going to have to work very hard to get a result.

“There are not many teams who go there and win.

“We beat them 48-6 at Heathbrook earlier in the season but they are a totally different proposition on their own turf.”

With just eight league games remaining, DK hold a four-point lead over third-placed South Leicester but face a trip to their rivals on the final day of the campaign, along with tough games against Rugby Lions and Syston.

Higgins knows the margin for error is slim.

He added: “There are not many games left at all and with the recent call-offs we have lost the weekends we had free in March.

“It means the games are going to be coming thick and fast.

“Having the games postponed was obviously not ideal but it has been the same for everyone.

“The players have had a chance to get fully re-charged and there certainly shouldn’t be any problems with fatigue.”
