Dulwich Hamlet 2-0 Margate

Dulwich Hamlet 2-0 Margate

Liam Hickey24 Sep 2013 - 22:11

A stunning free kick from Kevin James and a late goal from Ian Daly gave The Hamlet a win in the first of their back-to-back games with Margate.

The Dulwich line-up showed a return for Mathieu Boyer at right back with Peter Adeniyi switching back to centre half. Ian Daly came in up front in the other change from Saturday's win over Canvey Island.

It was Margate who got into their stride first with a header from ex Dulwich striker Paul Vines forcing a save from Phil Wilson. On 15 minutes, Lewis Gonsalves was forced to head a fine cross from Margate winger, Matt Bodkin, behind for a corner, whilst 4 minutes later Ellis Green got frr for The Hamlet on the let but there was nobody in the box to convert his cross into space on the edge of the six yard box.

The next chance feel to Margate, as Vines forced a good diving save from Wilson but chances were at a premium and the match drifted towards half time without an obvious sign of a breakthrough for either side.

However, on 43 minutes Lewis Gonsalves left his back header short and Paul Vines seized on it to advance on the exposed Wilson but the keeper stood up to block well.

With the half nearly up an incisive passing move through the middle saw Erhun Oztumer sent in behind the Margate defence and clear on goal. Richard Avery bundled the diminutive playmaker over on the edge of the box. It appeared to be a clear goalscoring opportunity but referee Jason Richardson deemed it only worthy of a yellow card.

However, there was to be immediate retribution for the foul as Kevin James struck a fierce free kick that beat the dive of 'Gate keeper Joe Welsh and sent Dulwich in with a precious lead.

The second half was a real arm-wrestle with both sides probing but struggling to create anything worthwhile. The next chance didn't arrive until the hour marke as Paul Vines was sent in behind the defence on the left. He rather scuffed his shot but Peter Adeniyi sliced it behind for a corner.

Dulwich had an appeal for a penalty turned aside as Erhun Oztumer was challenged by Welsh in the Margate goal. The Margate forwards were getting little change out of a resolute Hamlet back four in which Lewis Gonsalves was outstanding and at the other end Dulwich were probing for a quick break.

The crucial next goal was one that secured the points for The Hamlet. With four minutes remaining, good play by Kevin James and Xavier Vidal saw Erhun Oztumer played in on the edge of the box and his precise cross was turned in by Ian Daly. to secure all 3 points for the home team.

Supporters Man Of The Match was Lewis Gonsalves.
