On Sunday The Hamlet will take on a Sierra Leone XI, to raise funds, after the recent landslides there.

Despite being in FA Cup action this coming Saturday away to Slough Town, the Dulwich Hamlet players and management has no qualms about two matches in two days this weekend, by having this charity game on Sunday afternoon, which kicks off at 4.00pm.

Dulwich Hamlet Football Committee chairman Liam Hickey said:
"What makes this even more remarkable and heart-warming is that this initiative didn't come from the Boardroom table, or fans on the terraces, but directly from the changing rooms and the players themselves."
He also told the official Dulwich Hamlet website that he was grateful for the backing shown by our back-of-shirt sponsors, the public service trade union UNISON who have agreed to sponsor the match.

The disaster clearly affects many Londoners as it is estimated there are at least 20,000 Sierra Leoneans living in our capital, but the game is not just aimed at them. Dulwich Hamlet fans have a well-deserved reputation for being caring and compassionate, and we hope as many of you as possible will pop down to Champion Hill on Sunday afternoon, especially those who couldn't make the trip to Slough Town the day before. Not just for a good cause, but your chance to get your Hamlet fix as well! And it's not just for our fans to support...supporters from any other sides are welcome whether professional or non-league.

Admission is only a fiver, so please bring the rest of family, friends and neighbours, to create a carnival atmosphere amid such sombre circumstances.

One of our current players, Ibrahim Kargbo, was born in Freetown and has captained his national side. He explained:
"It's very sad, it's close to the area where I live, it's very difficult for people back home and the children who are homeless right now." He went on: "The Ibrahim Kargbo Foundation in collaboration with 'Concern Sierra Leoneans UK' needs your support in raising money in aid of the mudslide victims. Your donations will make a difference to the lives of the disadvantaged victims. Please support this noble cause."

One of the First Team coaching staff Tamba Ngongou added:
"All of us were devastated about what happened. We are trying to raise awareness and help the people of Sierra Leone."

Hamlet manager Gavin Rose showed his support:
"Let's see what we can do to raise awareness of the natural tragedy in Sierra Leone that took so many lives and affected thousands more. Our club takes pride in coming in numbers to support worthwhile causes, which is what sets us apart from the others".

With the last word to his assistant Junior Kadi:
"It gives me great pride to see so many people actively taking part in this event for my country of births aid. The day will be fun filled and played in a great spirit and hopefully will lead to more contributions from afar"

The game will kick off at 4pm at Champion Hill. as stated entry is only £5 and gates will be open from one o'clock and there will be a variety of DJs and musicians performimg over the afternoon, including DJ Lulu, Alonzo; Double A; Kella; Double Bangs; Lollipop to name but some of them. And the bar will open throughout, with the usual Sunday games being shown on the telly screens inside.
