Conscious of the fact that there are still many of our fans who would like information on the proposals, from a Dulwich Hamlet perspective, as well as wanting to encourage our supporters to get right behind the proposals, lifelong Hamlet supporter Andy Tucker(who was a founding member of our Supporters' Trust at the turn of the century) has formed an independent, single issue campaign group to back the new ground, called ‘Support Our Stadium’.
He has launched a website, which he will update as the campaigning grows over the summer months, and has arranged a launch meeting for ‘Support Our Stadium’ in the Clubhouse at Champion Hill, this coming TUESDAY 10th MAY, starting at 7.30pm.
The ‘top table’ will consist of Andy Tucker, chairing the meeting; Matt Rimmer, representing our owners Hadley Property Group; long-time supporters Mishi Morath & Liam Hickey, who are members of the Football Club Committee; Kevin Rye, an AFC Wimbledon fan, formerly of Supporters’ Direct (the umbrella group for supporters’ trusts) & First Team manager Gavin Rose.
Each will offer a short address to the room, and then the meeting will be open to questions from the floor, about the ground development proposals.
Campaign organiser Andy Tucker told our official website:
“ I believe that a new stadium for Dulwich Hamlet FC is crucial to our long term survival and this scheme represents our best chance to achieve that. We want all those who want to know more to be fully informed. With the people we have attending we hope, collectively, we can answer any questions and hopefully address any concerns”
He added:
“The Supporters’ Trust has done sterling work with the Club to improve the specifics of the scheme. Our campaign is aimed at getting agreement in principle to a new stadium and, in the immediate future, as well as to boost a positive result in the Trust's admirable poll about the stadium”
Mishi Morath commented:
“I was involved in the original campaigning to get the current stadium built, at the end of the Eighties. Sadly, although we got the new ground, it wasn’t built the way it should have been. This time we have an opportunity to build a modern ground, with facilities that will take us sustainably into the 21st century and beyond. I genuinely believe the very future of Dulwich Hamlet Football Club will be in doubt if these new stadium plans are not supported.”
