Dons in line of sight as Dulwich face promotion rivals in Ryman League match of the day.

Unbeaten in the league since late August Hendon, the I Zingari team of the Isthmian, have surprised many as they clutch at the coattails of the so-called championship shoe-ins, Maidstone and Margate. Indeed, had the odd goal gone the way of the North Londoners they might well find themselves right in the mix with only the Met Police and Enfield Town able to get the better of Gary McCann’s men this term.

Last Monday evening the men in green extended their unbeaten league record to 10 matches after coming from behind to pick up a point at home to Craig Edwards’ Billericay Town on Monday. Trailing after three minutes, Hendon drew level on 16 thanks to a deflected shot. Both sides were reduced to ten men by the hour mark but there was no further scoring. The share of the spoils left Hendon third in the table ahead of today’s visit to Champion Hill.

Two days previously, on Saturday, Hendon had earned an exhilarating 3-2 win over second-placed promotion rivals Margate at their current home of Earlsmead, with Leon Smith continuing his red-hot form bagging a stunning hat trick as the Dons closed the gap on the Kentish moneybags.

Unsurprisingly Smith, a familiar face to Hamlet faces who might recall his pugnacious performances for Wingate and Finchley, will be the key danger to the Dulwich defence. Prior to his match-winning hat trick against Margate Smith just failed to claim for himself the Hendon club record holder for number of games scored in a row. Coming off the bench in a London Cup tie against Barking his goal made it nine goals in eight straight games to equal the 89-year-old club record set by Oscar Reinke, although Reinke struck 18 times in his spell between September 5 and October 24 in 1925.

This afternoon’s game kicks off at 3.00 pm at Champion Hill Stadium, Edgar Kail Way, East Dulwich, London SE22 8BD.

The turnstiles will be open from approximately 12.30 pm with refreshment facilities available in the ground for early arrivals. As a very healthy crowd is expected, why not avoid the late rush and relax. Before the game enjoy a drink or snack in our cosy clubhouse with live sport on the big screens, conveniently situated just a short walk from the turnstiles?
