Champion Hill beckons for Leiston FC today as Dulwich Hamlet look to build on Enfield Town win

Part of the East Anglian Revolution that has seen the Ryman League swell from an insular M25 league to embrace teams as far north as Norfolk, east to the Kent coast and south to the Hampshire and Sussex seaside, Leiston have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in recent years.

The summer weather may have disappeared just in time for the weekend but look forward to some hot action on the pitch as Dulwich Hamlet attempt to end the Blues 100% start to the season. Leiston’s first brace games under manager Glenn Driver, appointed shortly after the end of last season, have already seen nine goals. That flying start sees sitting in fourth spot with the Blues one of just four clubs left with a full set of win this early in the campaign with newly promoted Worthing and Folkestone Invicta leading the way ahead of Tonbridge Angels.

The Blues’ excellent opening comes sharply into focus when the opposition is considered. First to fall at the feet of Driver’s men were big spending Havant & Waterlooville, the Hampshire side many pundits’ favourites to be forcing ahead in the early running. However, despite levelling through Theo Lewis after a Jack Ainsley opener at Victory Road, the Hawks were shot down in the second half as quick-fire goals from Gareth Heath and Matt Blake in the space of sixty seconds gave the Blues full points.

A Tuesday night out on Canvey Island might not be everybody’s midweek wish list. It seemed as if it would be a pointless one too for the Blues as Seagulls’ winger Jack Simmons returned to haunt his former club. After a goalless first 45 minutes Simmons had struck just before the hour then put his side back in front moments after Bryon Lawrence’s corker of a goal had restored parity. However, drama came in stoppage time. Tom Bullard fired home a second leveller on 91 minutes then Lawrence struck again right at the death to make it two wins out of two.
Last season’s encounters both ended in draws with Kevin James’ second half equaliser in torrential rain at Victory Road giving Dulwich Hamlet a precious point that proved crucial as the Pink and Blues squeaked into the playoffs.

This afternoon’s game takes place at Champion Hill Stadium, Edgar Kail Way, East Dulwich, London SE22 8BD, kicking off at 3.00pm. Main turnstiles will be open from 1.00 pm with the Greendale turnstiles also open from 2pm. Guests and officials are asked to enter via the Health Club reception which Season Ticket holders may also use on display of their season ticket.
