THIS EVENING’S MATCH PREVIEW – LEATHERHEAD (AWAY)

THIS EVENING’S MATCH PREVIEW – LEATHERHEAD (AWAY)

Paula Griffin16 Apr 2013 - 06:09

A return to the “scene of the crime” as Dulwich travel to Leatherhead’s Fetcham Grove to replay the match abandoned in January.

That afternoon Dulwich were in command, Danny Carr’s second of the game having just put Hamlet two goals to the good with only 12 minutes left on the clock, when the collapse of a surrounding wall at the Dulwich end saw the game brought to a premature end.

At the time both sides were riding high in the chase for promotion, Dulwich on the coattails of Maidstone in second spot, Leatherhead closing to within a two points of them a week later after a 3-2 win at the Stones but much water has passed under the bridge since then. Dulwich now sit in the box seat for automatic promotion as last Saturday’s 5-0 demolition of bottom club Walton Casuals combined with Maidstone’s surprise home defeat to Kent rivals, Faversham Town, in a match the Stones apparently dominated from first whistle to last but failed to find their shooting boots in front of goal. Meanwhile Leatherhead’s hopes of making the Ryman League Division One South play-offs were dented on Saturday as the Tanners slipped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Burgess Hill Town. Max Miller netted the only goal of the game as Leatherhead fell to a ninth home league defeat of the season on a pitch left barely playable after heavy overnight rain turned Fetcham Grove into a boating lake. The reverse left Leatherhead in seventh place in the division - five points behind Ramsgate in fifth, but though with three games in hand.

With the season’s end just 11 days away, Richard Brady’s team currently sit outside the top five in the Ryman League Division One South, and though they have games in hand on all the teams above them, they face a tough schedule of fixtures made even more strenuous after last Thursdays postponement of their home tie with Crawley Down Gatwick.

This evening’s game kicks off at 7.45 pm at Fetcham Grove, Guildford Road, Leatherhead, Surrey, KT22 9AS.

Please note certain safety arrangements may be in place at this game though we have not been made aware of any by the hosting club. Dulwich Hamlet fans are cordially advised to heed any instructions issued by stewards and behave accordingly. That is all.
