Dulwich produced a very poor performance that gifted lowly VCD their victory through a Ricky Sappleton hat trick.

Dulwich restored Ryan Moss and Dean McDonald to the starting line up along with captain Danny Waldren. Rhys Murrell-Williamson, Jacob Erskine & Jack Dixon dropped to the bench.

A very strong wind made good football very difficult and Dulwich were unable to ever really get control as VCD worked hard to deny them any space.

Ex Hamlet player Niger Neita created the first real moment of danger as he strolled through 2 poor attempted challenges but his cross was unable to find anybody in the penalty area.

Dulwich could not find any fluency until a slick move in the 16th minute saw Damian Scannell flash a shot just wide after good play from Dean McDonald.

There was nothing to choose between the sides as the game was bogged down in an exchange of aimless passing, much of it overhit or caught up in the wind. However, Dulwich opened the scoring in the 32nd minute.

Matt Drage launched a long ball that found Nyren Clunis in space. He advanced and got to the byeline where he crossed to Ryan Moss who was no more than a yard out in front of an unguarded goal.

Rather than grow on this, Dulwich were to lead for only 5 minutes. A free kick some 30 yards out was hit firmly by Sappleton and found the net via the inside of the post. However, Phil Wilson clearly thought the shot was headed wide as he made no effort to get to the ball.

Four minutes later VCD took the lead . An innocuous long ball forward saw Sappleton bully his way past both Drage & Sankofa before beating Wilson.

Just as it seemed the home side would lead at the break, Dulwich equalised on the stroke of half time when Dulwich's outstanding player on the day, Nyren Clunis, turned some 25 yards out ant thumped his shot past Budd in the home goal.

Half Time 2-2

If Dulwich had been poor in the first half they managed to be worse after half time. Budd was not required to make any saves of note after the break.

Ryan Moss had an early effort that he failed to connect with properly and Budd saved easily. Dulwich then had a good shout for a penalty turned down. Murrell-Williamson, who had related McDonald before the break, twisted his way into the box and crossed low to around the penalty spot. Danny Waldren attacked the ball and seemed to be brought fown by a defender who had been caught on his heels but the official did not agree.

Ashley Carew fired wide before VCD got their winner in the 67th minute, a goal totally in keeping with the scrappy game. A corner was headed up but not out and Wilson was unable to get a clean punch under presdure; Sappleton duly volleyed home.

Dulwich rang the changes but they were unable to fashion anything of note. Nyren Clunis was the most likely source of any rescue act but when he did get a dangerous cross in it just evaded Ryan Moss.

VCD held out with no alarms ad The Hamet never threatened to show even small glimpses of their undoubted ability.

Final Score 3-2
