On Friday evening, 10th November, we shall pay tribute to those who were Dulwich Hamlet members who paid the ultimate sacrifice

All supporters and friends of the Club are invited to our annual non-denominational wreath laying ceremony in the Boardroom at Champion Hill Stadium, which will commence at 7.30pm, this coming Friday 10th November.

We shall remember those who swapped their Pink & Blue kits for military uniforms never to return.

Also present, among our guests, will be representatives of the Dulwich branch of the Royal British Legion, who were recently at Champion Hill, collecting for their annual Poppy Appeal.

Some have no known final resting place, but have never been forgotten at Champion Hill, thanks to our Club founder Lorraine 'Pa' Wilson, who installed the fitting memorial, that currently resides in the Boardroom.

After the wreaths are place on the memorial and respects paid the evening will lighten up with a number of eagerly anticipated activities.

Firstly, Roger Deason will give a brief summary of the First World War players represented, and show his booklet on them, which was called "When Shall Their Glory Fade?" and published two years ago. If you have not had a copy of this excellent tome then a few copies are still available to purchase on the night.

We are also honoured to have in attendance Claire Holloway, who was at last year's Dulwich Hamlet Armistice service and brought in the large pre-war memorabilia collection, which was handed down in her family from our former player & her relative, Fred Pilkington, who wore our colours a century ago. She has been busy, when time allows, scanning all of the old programmes she had, so that we will have them recorded for posterity, for which we are all extremely grateful for.

Claire originally contacted Al Crane, the Chair of the Supporters' Trust, and as an aficionado of the great history of our Club, he will introduce her, and talk a little about why such artifacts are so important.

Finally, the book we have all been waiting for, painstakingly written by Steve Hunnisett, and again produced by Jack McInroy, under the 'Hamlet Historian' name, 'For Freedom' is being launched on Friday as well, with Steve talking about why it has been so important to produce it, as well as what he discovered about our four Second World War players who never made it home.

Football Club chairman Liam Hickey said:

"For a Club at our level of the game we must be almost unique in having a small service each year. I shall be there as Chairman, being honoured and humble in my position as Chair of the Football Committee, to follow in the footsteps of 'Pa' Wilson, albeit as one of whose successors, whose shoes I will never be able to fill"

Football Club Committee member Mishi Morath, who is a regular contributor to the 'Hamlet Historian' praised those with a true love of the Club's past:

" I am one of those who devours anything about our the great and even not so great past of our Club. I like to dabble myself, but in truth I am a mere amateur researcher of the past. I cannot express enough the gratitude we owe to genuine historians like Jack, Roger & Steve...who don't just delve into the past, but bring it to life not just for people like me, but future generations of supporters."
