DULWICH DRAWN BACK BY LEVELLER
Paris Mason punctured the carnival atmosphere at a packed Champion Hill to give struggling Hampton a shock share of the spoils against high-flying Dulwich Hamlet.
In front of nearly 3,000 people Ashley Carew twice gave Dulwich the lead, his second coming after Hamlet had Kershaney Samuels sent off.
But Ben Harris's penalty, for which Samuels received his second caution, and Mason's 90th minute intervention hauled the Beavers back each time.
Hamlet boss Gavin Rose told The NLP: "It was great for everyone here to be part of the record crowd, especially the local people paying their first visit. It was just disappointing that the team gave a below-par performance and let themselves down."
Hampton co-manager Darren Powell admitted: "When the opposition go down to ten men, you want to kick on and win but we conceded a second and in the end were happy with a point. Dulwich is always a difficult place but I thought we quietened a bumper crowd with our strong first-half performance."
Hampton made the early running with Charlie Moone drawing a smart save from Phil Wilson. Dulwich threatened only rarely, but a 13th minute header from Michael Kamara clipped the bar after Carew's deep corner was nodded back by Ethan Pinnock.
Dulwich twice went close to snatching the lead before the break. Kevin James volleyed wide on 31 minutes and just before the interval Carew forced a full-length save from keeper Jack Norton.
Dulwich stepped up a gear after the break and after Norton's fingertip save from Neita, they went ahead on 55 minutes.
James made tracks down the left and expertly lifted his cross over the defence for Carew to volley home at the back post.
But Hampton drew level on 67 minutes when a sloppy pass from Marlon Patterson gifted the ball to Ben Harris who moved threateningly into the box before being tripped by Samuels.
The Hamlet midfielder received his marching orders and Harris smashed home the penalty.
An excellent last-ditch tackle by Pinnock denied Charlie Moone as Hampton pushed forward, but Dulwich struck again 12 minutes from time.
Pinnock beat two opponents near the corner flag and pass inside to Carew who curled a superb shot from the edge of the box into the top corner.
However, the ten mencould not hold onto their lead. In the 90th minute Moone's shot was blocked and the rebound fell to Mason who netted from eight yards.
