Double bubble for Dulwich Hamlet’s Under 18s & Under 16s in the Kent Youth League as both teams maintain their title challenge.

The Under 18s were first in action this weekend travelling to Bromley B just seven days after a resounding 5-2 win at home to the young Lilywhites and it was more of the same this Sunday. Goals from Alton Leeward, Lekan Osideko and Henry Awokere made sure of a 3-1 victory for Dulwich Hamlet. The win keeps the team five points clear of second placed Welling United who also won at the weekend. However the biggest threat must come from Bromley A. They have not played a League game since January 8th, due to cup commitments and have seven games in hand of the Hamlet (including home & away ties with Bromley B!) to sit ten points shy of Dulwich. The two sides meet at Rutland Walk at the end of the month in what promises to be a humdinger of a clash. Dulwich’s next Kent Youth League outing will be this Sunday 5th March when they welcome bottom club Sporting Club Thamesmead to Rutland Walk, kick-off 11 am.

Before then the Youth Team return to action in the National League Under 19 Youth Alliance when they take on second placed Maidstone United Blues in a key Division “G” fixture this coming Wednesday. The race for this season’s title looks to be one of the closest for years with five teams in close contention for the top spot. Phoenix Sports are the surprise package, currently holding on to top spot but the Stones have recovered from a late autumn stutter and have been ramming home the goals of late, scoring THIRTY goals in their last four games as they moved into second spot. Dulwich suffered their own midwinter dry spell, failing to pick up a win in five straight games through December and January before returning to form in their last outing at Thamesmead Town, winning six nil. This fixture is scheduled to take place at Rutland Walk, kicking off at 2.00 pm.

Meanwhile the Under 16’s continued their long unbeaten run in the Kent Youth League, stretching back to late October last year, beating Erith & Belvedere 2-0 at Rutland Walk. Javaun Splatt and Kubroh Tsehaye scored the goals as Dulwich made it eight games undefeated. The victory sees them hold on to third spot behind Greenwich Borough and leaders Phoenix Sports who both recorded wins at the weekend. However, Dulwich have games in hand of both clubs. Incidentally these top three have completed their games against one another. The Under 16s are next in action this coming Sunday 5th March with the return fixture against Erith & Belvedere taking place at Thamesmead Town with a 3.00 pm kick-off.
