Dumfries Juniors continued their season on Friday evening. This time it was the turn of the under 10s.

Langholm was again the venue but was thankfully midge-free for the second visit.

This time it was the Langholm team which triumphed – and how they triumphed. Despite some good performances from the Nunholm youngsters Langholm’s ability to hit the stumps with the ball and the boundaries with the bat proved conclusive.

Batting first Dumfries were given a good start by Aiden Goodin and Archie Donald with a commendable undefeated 22 runs against excellent bowling. Finlay and Gus Reynolds-Lewis were the other major run-getters but the loss of 8 wickets (minus 40 runs) meant an under-whelming total of 45.

The Langholm bowling stars were Coray Park , 1 wicket for 5, Kerr Gordon, 3 for 5 and Brady Wilson 2 for 3 – including a double-wicket maiden.

Brady then sealed his player of the match display with a powerful batting performance - putting on fifty along with Tom Henderson. Coray Park also showed his all-round abilities by combining with Will Donaldson for another fifty partnership. A shortage of wickets ensured a remarkable 140 run total.

Katy Anderson was the only bowler who managed to withstand the onslaught – her first over going for only one run. The champagne moment, however, was Ceiran Petrie’s fantastic catch while leaping like the proverbial salmon.

Also on Friday, Dumfries Juniors played Moffat Juniors at Nunholm in what was a debut match for the Moffat side. The visitors impressed with a promising display but the final result went the way of the Nunholm side.

The home side batted first and, with the opening Moffat bowlers bowling well, were kept to forty runs after the first ten overs. However the run rate increased in the second half of the innings with a number of boundaries to reach a total of one hundred and seventeen for the loss of two wickets. McMillan took the two wickets to fall.

The bowlers also bowled tightly in the second innings and runs were a premium. Moffat batted through for seven wickets down but were someway short of the challenging first innings total after a resolute batting effort. Sean Thornely-Kyle was the top wicket taker with three wickets.
