Dumfries Cricket Club’s Monday evening programme concluded ironically with one of the nicest evenings and best turn-outs of the summer.

The season finished in organized chaos or was it perhaps chaotic organization. A big thanks to Callum for his part in it and indeed for his efforts over the whole summer. We finished with a BBQ for which we can thank Ben although I must say I was pleased with my seekh kebabs.

Thanks are also due to all the youngsters who made it an enjoyable year and their parents who made it possible.

The evening was finished with a summary of the competitive season and awards were made. Below is one interpretation of said season.

Home and away fixtures with Galloway and Langholm were augmented by two matches against Dumfries Women and couple of practice games to replace unfulfilled fixtures. This enabled us to have Friday evening as match evening for much of the summer despite a further two late season fixtures against Galloway being rained off.

All told well over twenty juniors/youths took part with the two Lukes – Storr and McBurnie, Brogan Dean, Max Corbett-Byers, James Hobman and Katy Anderson being “ever-presents”.

Close games and lots of good performances were the norm and the youngsters managing at least one victory over each opponent. Thanks must go to the opposition and their organisers for the spirit in which matches were played – competitive and (hopefully!) the right amount of coaching. The internal matches were also hard-fought and produced much needed match experience.

The two top batters for the season were Max Corbett-Byers with 160 runs from11 innings and James Little with 73 from eight. It was a shame Tom Currie could not have played more to add to his 35 runs from 3 innings.

The two top wicket-takers were James Hobman with 13 from 34 overs and Aiden 7 wickets from 29. But Katy Anderson proved the most economical – going at under 3 per over.
